If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Subwoofer upgrade options

What Deewan said.

I would be interested in that as well. I think the sound is good but would appreciate a little more thump as well. Is there a spec on the speaker? I expect removing the seat would be in order to replace it. But if anybody goes down THAT rabbit hole, let me know and I will swallow the Red Pill too!
Thanks!

I figured the seat would have to be removed and the driver popped out to get some specs. I had to remove the driver in the Explorer and was then able to see the dual voice coil and 1ohm rating on the OEM driver. I grabbed the diameter and other dimensions of the driver then began searching for replacements.

If I had the GV70, I would already been checking it out options but instead I am waiting for delivery. :) I'm honestly wondering if the driver under the seat is more of transducer than a driver due to limited space and the lack of audible bass that others have reported. I've also only had about 5 minutes inside of a GV70 to this point and the audio system was not the item I spent my time investigating.

I don’t like the exploration part of a new car. I do appreciate the how to tutorials people do on upgrades and mods and prefer to learn from those who have gone before me. So I’m the guy who is going to wait for someone like you to do the exploration and hopefully post their results! I know, I’m a 🐓!

Thanks for being Lewis! (Or are you Clarke?) 😂

Looks great @TravisF. I'm sure that is a nice improvement for the stock system.

I'm still about one month away from taking delivery of the 2023 3.5 Sports Prestige I have coming and I'm still very interested in the in-floor LFE driver Genesis uses and if any improvements to that driver at that location can be made. In my Explorer I was able to replace the OEM shallow mount sub with an aftermarket and it made a noticeable improvement. Still nothing along the lines of adding a dedicated box and driver, with extra amp, but it was enough to make me happy.
The issue is not the driver. If you replace it, I think everything will sound the same (or worse).

IMO, the issue is how the stock system is tuned. Sub volume and crossover. Until you get the volume above 50 the under seat driver is producing very little output.

Once I get my vehicle I can measure the in cabin response with my calibrated mic and REW. Then I’ll know what is actually going on. Right now some improvements could be made with a driver change. Efficiency of the driver, displacement of the driver, frequency range and output can all have a sizable difference when compared to some stock drivers

I went the easy route and love the result. Powered 12" Rockford Fosgate with built in 500W (300W RMS) amp and hi-lo line controller. Remote volume tontrol for the sub. Easy install (3 hours at the shop). Easily moveable/removeable. Cost less than $700 US OTD. Couldn't be happier. View attachment 46396
Hey Travis, love your setup! I already own the exact same RF 12" 500W/300Wrms ported powered sub in a box (was in my previous car).
Just picked up a 2023 GV70 "Select" with standard (but still amplified) sound system. Love this vehicle!!
A few questions about Sub Install:
1) Did you need an Audio Control LC2 or was the hi-lo line controller on the side of the box enough?
2) By the way, where did you tap into wiring?
3) Did you in any way need to remove the dash/or take apart the existing factory radio? (This makes me very nervous, even for an install shop to do).
4) Should I actually run that subwoofer volume controller thing? Worth it?
5) A higher end shop here in New England wants $500 to install my parts (will buy my own 4 gauge kit), does that seem high to you?

Thanks!

RC

I believe for us "Select" standard sound system guys, from another thread, the amp is in the rear passenger side.

I have the same style of setup. Also a RF. Love the result as well. Gives the upgraded factory the perfect amount of low-end bass. Really like that I can adjust the bass output from installed remote.

1) No. LC built-in
2) Battery and speaker wires are in the rear. There is a thread on this forum, one of the first "subwoofer" upgrades with a wiring diagram.
3) Nothing in the front other than the volume control
4) Yes! The sub is more powerful than the stock system. You will want to have volume control.
5) Yes. It's an easy job. 2 hours. $200 or less. I paid $165+$80 for the power kit

Not sure how many of you feel the same way, but this is my fourth Genesis (2011 HyundaI Genesis, 2013 Hyundai Genesis R-Spec, 2014 Hyundai Equus), and all of those vehicles had a much stronger sound system. I truly love my GV70, but I decided to add a bit of power to just the base by adding a JBL sub and JBL amp. I got a separate bass controller for the sub and turned the bass nearly all the way down on the speakers, and the difference is insane! The work was done by Car Toys, and it looks so nice and clean. The JL system is amazing, it adds a level of punch that I was not expecting. I had asked the shop to upgrade the speakers to focals, and after listening they said that the speakers were actually very good on this system, so I would have to pay nearly $6K to notice the difference. They built me a box specific for the car, and ran the installation beautifully.
Sub is the JL audio 10W6v3 and the amp is the JL XD600/1V2.
I’m looking at making a custom box similar to this one one question though: seems like the box is on top of the floor panel that lifts up. How do you access the under floor stair age/ wheel?

Yesterday I thought I'd take a look in the cargo area for any unused space. It appears there could be space to create a custom fiberglass sub box near the spare tire. I didn't have enough time to estimate volume, but it appears a low profile 8" driver would fit. Driver could be located in the upper left side of the spare tire and should be able to be ported into the cabin of the GV70 near the back seat. It likely wouldn't make a HUGE earth shattering difference, but it would add some extra bass punch. Might be a fun project for me thins coming winter.

I am thinking getting the Powered 10" Fosgate P300 - It seems to be the perfect subwoofer for what I need.

The key is the mounting area... I use my trunk area to store my mountain bike... therefore prefer to not take any space on the floor of the trunk... I was thinking of somehow mounting on the top or behind the wheel well or even on top of the roof (probably not a good idea). I hope someone finds a solution.

I can confirm it's a great sub. I have the 12. You will love. Adds the perfect amount of bass for my eyes.

I would agree on the roof is not a good mounting location. In an accident that cabinet might become a fly object and cause serious harm.

Does anyone have instructions on removing the right side covering to access the Lexicon AMP?

I had it professionally installed. They said it was pretty straight forward other than the remote sub control they installed in the front. I placed it on the left side, up against the seat. It takes up very little space.
Question on your Sub Install, did they tap into the back door speaker wire or tap into your factory amplifier? I have the 2023 GV70 Select and I'm pretty sure it has an amp on the passenger rear wheel well. Trying to figure out where to get signal from. Thanks!

I believe it was the backdoor speaker. This particular sub already has an amp attached inside the box.

Gotcha thanks, I'm getting a quote from a car audio shop and they want to know if they can tap into factory amp but I'm not sure why they wouldn't just use rear door speaker wire. Thanks for reply!

Yes sir. Rear door would be ideal. The sub sounds great. Won't rattle your mirrors off, but can hit pretty hard if you want it to. It compliments the factory system well.

Going into the door is not required. Tap into the speaker wires that go to the factory amp.

My installer told me all of the wiring was in the rear, right side of the vehicle.
