  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I have had an oil catch can installed on my 5.0 for a few months now. Not much accumulated until recently. I removed it for a dealer service and in the few days removed, the factory hose leaked a lot of oil. My oil level has stayed steady, so I’m not too concerned. Does anyone know what would cause this sudden rise in blowby?

I’m thinking it’s because of the cold temps where I live. I also use the car for a lot of short trips meaning the engine is cold more than most cars.

A lot of condensation in these cold temps, that may be it

IMO you have nothing to worry about.

I installed an OCC at 6K miles on my 2018 G80 3.3T HTRAC after I bought it in Feb 2018 with 5K miles on it. The color of the captured fluid varies from black to brown like picture above. Consistency varies from oily to watery. I typically capture about 0.2 fluid ounces every 5K miles. I check and drain every 2.5K Miles. I could probably safely go 5K miles between drains. Pictures of what my OCC captured can be found in this forum here.

@JEBIV'S hypothesis about cold weather causing OCC fluid to be more brown/watery because of condensation is reasonable.
