Happened to me yesterday. 25 mph. 2012 with 87000. Luckily I wasn’t pulling into traffic. Hyundai needs to address this before someone gets killed

It is a 9 year old car. I don't think they are going to fix it.

Do you have a picture of the setup used. Our 2012 is about the to sold in this rough market because no one can fix the safety issue.
Would love a last chance to fix it.

I can report that I have not had an issue with my car since I adjusted the terminal clamp.

Again, I have an aftermarket battery (still not cheap). I adjusted the clamp by placing an additional piece metal inside the clamping mechanism of the terminal clamp. By adding the metal piece, I was able to get a tighter fit on the post.

To test if your clamp is not holding properly. With the clamp in place. see if you can turn it by hand or, as in my case, lift it off completely without any tools. If it wiggles or comes free, you will need to figure out a way to add a piece of material to take up the slack. I chose to address the clamp its self so I could maintain complete post contact.

This is MOST LIKELY it, people. The problem of engine suddenly die on slow speeds and happen intermittently.

I'm very familiar with it. My sister gave me her 2012 Genesis v6 gen precisely because of it. Car died (but able to restart) in the middle of the road for them twice and scared them to dead. So, they let it go.

But I'm good with it because my 2005 Altima v6 has had the same problem, as many other Nissans including my coworker's Maxima. It stalled on me while on a busy freeway! Twice. For some reason I never got nervous. I replaced the crank shaft position sensor and camshaft sensor and never experienced the problem again.

Back to the Genesis. So, I knew what to fix, but luck has it that the whole engine knocked and then blew up. I replaced the whole engine. My mechanic said the new engine (a rebuilt) came with a cps so no worries about the old one.

I have put about 500 miles on the rebuilt-engine Gen with very aggressive driving, pushing 90mph sometimes. No issues. It's smooth and quiet.

We gave our daughter our 2009 Genesis. It recently starting shutting off too. It usually restarts but sometimes I have to jump it. It sits in my driveway now until it’s fixed. It has 144K miles but runs good otherwise. I checked the negative battery cables and all is tight. I’m going to replace the CPS too. There are no codes either.

It has 144K miles but runs good otherwise. I checked the negative battery cables and all is tight. I’m going to replace the CPS too. There are no codes either.

Have you had it to an auto parts store, like O'Reilly's, to have them check the battery and alternator. Free check, couldn't hurt.

No but thanks, I think that’s my next step. Decided against the CPS. I don’t think that’s the issue since we totally lose power. Idk it’s frustrating trying to troubleshoot this thing.

So this just happened with our 2012 Genesis today. It happens when my son hits the breaks only! Then it will crank right back up. They have tested battery alternator and starter. All good. The ABS light just came on though. So I'm wondering if it's a safety thing to do with that. Maybe since it happens when he hits the breaks?

I have a 2012 Genesis and have had the engine stop while driving twice since
October. No indicator lights come on. Both times I was driving under 25 mph
making a turn. Very scary to have this happen. First time I took the car back
and service writer could not duplicate the problem. Today I dropped the car
back again with a different service writer who told me he has never heard
of this problem and" has been in the business many years".
I am worried this is something that they cannot fix and I am not going to be
confident about driving the car without worrying about whether or not it may
shut down while driving for no reason.
Anyone else have a similar problem?

I bought my 2012 Genesis 3.8 with 71 miles. I believe it was around 2k Miles when I was on a city driving approximately 25 mph when my engine turned off. I was able to coast to the curb safely. I waited 5 minutes and started the engine. I made the short drive home with no further issues. I contacted the dealership I purchased the car from. The service advisor stated that the technician could not replicate the issue. The technician suggested that it could be a faulty wiring harness and that if the engines turns off again, they would replace the harness. I have 140k on the Genesis now and it never happened again. It was an unnerving experience to say the least.

I have a 2011 Gensis 4.6 with about 116,000 miles. Similar to many of you I began experiencing intermittent engine issues. Initially it was only when I tried to start the car. After it stuttered it would eventually start. But then the car did not run properly - idle high, lurch in first gear but then very sluggish when I pressed the gas pedal. Over time the issues became more frequent and got worse to include dying at traffic lights if it was a particularly long red light. Just last week it completely died without warning, but I was in a parking garage with no one behind me so no harm no foul. It started right back up and ran fine but still unnerving.

I took it to 3 shops + a Hyundai dealership all of whom could not get the problem to replicate nor get anything when they ran their diagnostics. The last mechanic opined it was fuel related. He searched the internet and guessed it was either a camshaft sensor or a fuel pump. Before charging me to do anything he asked I run Shell premium for three tanks to see if it was just carbon build up, etc. It seemed to run better but was not perfect. In time, it started acting up like before. Two days ago, I got a check engine light again, so I ran it over to him. This time the diagnostic returned an error code for one of the camshaft position sensor. After discussing it, I decided to have him replace all of them. He is waiting on the parts but should have it back soon.

Once I get it back, I will let everyone know how it goes. If this does not work then I am getting rid of the car.

I've read through all this and can't find the crankshaft sensor anywhere

Did replacing the camshaft position sensor and crankshaft position sensors fix your issues completely? Im having some issues with intermittent starting on my 2015 3.8 including long cranking and check engine lights that go away after a few days, Ive had it to the dealership three times and they haven't been able to recreate the problems. The last engine code I got was for the crankshaft sensor

Did you end up having any luck with this? my 2015 3.8 is doing the same stuff. It just started doing the random shut off today
