  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

So I own a 2015 Genesis 3.8l sedan, and a couple of days ago the power steering failed briefly. The problem seemed to have resolved itself after the car was turned off for a little while, and operated normal. However, just a day and a half later (probably about 60 miles on the road) the problem returned randomly while driving down the highway and has remained since. I can't seem to find any common issues or solutions, or really any information at all for that matter. I also noticed that the steering wheel doesn't lock anymore while the ignition is off. Fuses relating to the EPS appear to be fine, and I have also tried resetting the ecu to see if that helped at all. I will say, though that I'm unsure that I preformed an actual reset because the time, date, and presets remained the same. Have any of you guys experienced this before? Thank you for any information in advance.

I'd try disconnecting the electrical connectors at the rack and inspecting them for issues, then plug them back in.

I'll give that a try, thank you!

So an update, I still haven't been able to find the core issue so I took the genesis to a local mechanic( not Hyundai specific) and he preformed a diagnostic scan a little more advanced then what I had available to me. He told me that the power steering's ecu was throwing an "internal fault code". He said that he thinks I'd have to replace the entire system but have any of you guys got any input? I know I will have to take it to a Hyundai specific dealership, which the closest one is just shy of 2 hours from me. I'd just like to know what I could be in for $$$ wise and possible alternatives to a full eps replacement. Thanks for any advice!

Shot in the dark........
EPS is a largest amp draw, or so I have read here.
I also read many of our cars have issues with the positive battery clamp.
Perhaps a check there would be useful.

I believe that a new OEM electric power steering rack will cost about $3500 without including the labor cost. So you will be looking to spend about $4000 or more to have the dealership replace the power steering rack.

The power steering module is part of the power steering rack; so it may not be available as an separate part that can be purchased by itself.
