  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

What parts? I have 96k on mine and only had to be aligned twice. Everything seems to still be like new on my 2011 4.6 suspension.

So I've been dealing with my local Hyundai dealership and getting pricing. Has anyone done a transmission fluid flush? The tranny fluid is like $72/qt. She said she has conflicting information at her shop as far as if it is a lifetime fluid or should be changed out at 100K. She was going to call Hyundai and get the "final" answer.

What say you guys?

I can see a problem here since even at 100K miles not many mechanics are going to have any experience with this. That is probably why they are hesitating in doing it unless really necessary. As I am sure you know, it is not easy to change the fluid on these transmissions as the manufacturer tend to make it difficult to do in order to discourage amateurs from changing the fluid.

Hyundai has a TSB that requires flushing of the brake fluid to change it from DOT 3 to DOT 4. There is speculation that this change is to fix a problem that several Genesis owners have with brake pedal going to the floor during a stop and pumping may not help. This seems to be more prevalent with earlier models.

The TSB requires the dealer to do this when the vehicle is brought in for any service. I don't think they should charge you for this even though yours is not under warranty.

I had mine done at 80k and Rick Case techs in Atlanta(Duluth) GA did not have any issues with doing the service. It is expensive but nothing like the cost of the transmission. I will have it done again at 150k. I now have 102k on the Genny.

I hope not. The MSRP for the ZF transmission is $11,246.66. That is just for the part, installation is extra.

Well I got a call back from her and she said it was a "lifetime" fluid. I don't recall this being on the Hyundai maintenance schedule. Probably would run over $1000 to have the fluid flushed out.

Homeofstone, in order try to end wild speculation, how much have you paid?

Being that the Genesis transmissions now use synthetic fluid, I would not doubt that (unless car has been in very deep water, etc).

Just under 800.00, but I plan on keeping the car until 230,000 or more miles. If a person is replacing the car at 140k or so then I would not get it done. I have changed the transmission fluid on my Suburban(now with 185k) every 50k and also on my two Mercedes. I have never had a transmission problem.

That's helpful. Thank you. :)

Seems that my dealerships around here charge an absorbent amount of $$$ for service. Techs are billed out at $109/hr and to have my front brakes and rears replaced would cost me like $525. I told them to pound sand...

Parts are $111 for fronts and $78 for rears. So I called a couple dealers and not one of them has the fronts and rears in stock. This is three local dealers. I couldn't freaking believe it.

There was one dealership about 40 minutes away that had them though.

I'll have to get a firm quote on the transmission flush.

How many miles on your Genny? I have 102k mine and still about 15k left on the pads. Car still brakes as smooth as silk.

Well I haven't done anything yet. I was just thinking of doing pads but you might as well do rotors too. Not sure what the cost is on that...

92k and the pads show a good amount left. I do feel a little roughness when braking hard at higher speeds....

Luckily for me I have a local mechanic who will come to your house and do any amount of work on any kind of vehicle. He knows the Kia and Hyundai brand well along with pretty much every other kind of car. I really lucked out.. not many like this guy around. Charges chump change for labor as long as you provide the material.

Just had new brake lines put in my 1998 F150. He charged me $70 for labor.

A really good guy too who helps people out all the time.

I do have my OEM V8 rotors laying around wrapped in a box that haven't used since my rotor swap back in the day. I'll sell my OEM front rotors to you in interested. Just throwin' it out there. They had 19,000 miles on them when I removed them.

Next time try www.newhyundaiparts.com which is actually Hilton Head Hyundai in South Carolina. Other dealers run similar websites.
