  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

A friend with a 2017 G80 recounted a horrible experience just driving along and the sun roof exploded sending chards of glass into the car. He said he had a major battle with Hyundai who said it was his fault. He researched this on some consumer report online and saw hundreds of such incidents. He eventually got Hyundai to pay. I never heard of this issue before and now I am concerned about my 2018 G90 just a few months old.

Have any of you experienced this problem?

^ This has been a problem for numerous automakers (Ford/Lincoln, BMW, Mercedes, Toyota/Lexus, Honda/Acura, Nissan/Infiniti, VW/Audi, Volvo, Subaru to name a few), esp. w/ the drastic temp fluctuations and the increase in panoramic roofs (always disliked the idea, as it robs headroom, adds weight while losing structural integrity).

Been so much of an issue that there are class actions against pretty much every automaker.

I am not sure it is much of an issue if any at all with the OP JoeR-in-TX‘s car, the Genesis G90.

^ Maybe, but even Texas has been known to get severe temp fluctuations, including hail storms...

It’s not the climate I was referring to but that the G90 has a different sunroof design. Do you know of a *significant number* of shattering problems of a G90 sunroof?

This article from Consumer Reports has a lot of good information. There's a suggestion that panoramic sunroofs are more susceptible because of their size and curvature. Personally, I prefer the smaller sunroof in the G90, which is the same size as the one in my 2011 Genesis. I didn't retract the shade very often and opened or tilted the sunroof very rarely.
