  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Sunroof exploded

Wondering if there's any correlation between people that have noisy headliner/sunroofs and then had an explosion? I have the first, and am considering adding an adhesive 3M film to avoid the latter, but worried that putting pressure on the glass might cause more sound problems. Has anyone put a film on their sunroof? If so, what product did you choose? Did you go to a dealer or a detailer? Thanks!

Hardly a significant data point but I'll share it anyway. A couple of months ago my wife was hit in an intersection hard enough to spin her 5.0 (heavy) 45 degrees. The impact was in the rear passenger door. Sunroof was fine.

Yikes. Hope she's ok. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks. She was fine. Several of airbags went off (passenger curtain, rear seat) but she would have been fine without them. Guess a 4600 lb car is good for something. Insurance totaled it. Estimate was $16k. Backseat alone was $4k.

2017 G80 Sunroof Exploded on me 2 weeks ago. Glass is all bent up, little to no traffic around me. Huge patch of glass about 5" in diameter was right behind the opening. Genesis will not cover the work under warranty. Quoting me $1700 to repair. Originally saying the glass would take 3-5 weeks to supply. My dealership expedited the order and had it done in under 2 weeks.

Sorry to hear that. When I got my '15 I added the glass coverage to my insurance just for this reason. $50 deductible for a minimal increase in payments.

Mine just blew out yesterday in the town of Chandler, Az!. I was driving ntoward Texas from LA area ,and been on the road for nearly 4-5 hrs when I loud bang nearly gave me a heart attack! The temperature was 108* degrees outside and my ac run Ning at around 70* inside the cabin. Now I’m stuck paying )125 a day for my hotel and Hyundai is pondering if they should cover it! I’ll say this much if they won’t I’m taking legal action on all my expenses! This is bs! Outright dangerous to own this car with the panoramic sunroof!
I attached some photos and had to park my car in front of hotel to keep it secure until the dealership open the following day! EAE3CA10-6E78-454E-A197-6424C9E18CD8.webpFA6585BE-E686-4E9A-8015-D33B35CA49D0.webp0ECF3586-2D39-42A4-A46C-26F667802420.webp35E63B9C-38AC-4D04-B899-7507F290980D.webp

I've always hated sunroofs, useless IMO, I'd rather have metal above me, pano roofs are utterly useless, they add cost, weight, complexity, and for what? so that I can see stupid clouds.
If I ever get a car with a pano roof, due to package configuration..., I'll have it tinted with 5%, that's what I did on my last car that had a small sunroof, luckily, my current car doesn't have one so I'm happy about that.
You would think they would laminate pano roof, like windshields, so they don't shatter into a thousand pieces.

It looks like Hyundai is going to cover it under warranty, but I’m still losing out on lodging expenses because it’s going to take at least a week to get it done. All together I’m going to be out close to $1k. I contacted the Class action firm and they are going to reach out in a few days. I still have to travel 1600 miles toward southern Texas and I’m worried about this happening again. Considering having it shipped to Texas now! Never had issues with my sunroof on my Acura MDX and I took that across the country from California to NY twice in the summer! Unbelievable

Warranty on the roof was recently extended to all owners... I got a card in the mail from Hyundai a few months ago. Ten years or 120000 mi - or something like that.
That’s great! Thanks for the info.

too bad that doesn't apply in Canada, fortunately we don't get many 100+ degree weather days. The pano was my biggest reservation about this Car.
