  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

hello ..

i am new to genesis .. i just got a genesis 09 for my wife .. month later the sunroof stuck and won't tilt down .. i hear the motor trying to bring it down but it is stuck ..

any help how to investigate and repair this ? :(

If you've got a 2009 Genesis, the plastic guides in the sunroof have probably cracked.

I had this happen to my old 2009 4.6L Genesis a while back. If you've got some mechanical savvy, you'll need to remove the sunroof glass so that you can get to the track then then help feed the guide posts back into the plastic track while you actuate the open/close button. Otherwise I'd recommend taking it to a shop that does sunroofs or the dealer to see if they can do it for you. It shouldn't take more than 30 minutes of labor to do it.

See the attached photos for where the plastic track cracked on my sunroof. The guide post got outside of the track which then caused it to stick up when in the closed position.

Once I got the track back the way it should be, I reinstalled the glass and then disconnected the sunroof switch to ensure that I didn't accidentally try to open it (and thus jam it again).

It's an expensive repair (the entire track has to be replaced), so I simply lived with a permanently closed sunroof after that.

Is this still a problem in current production Genesis models?

On the day I went to pick up my 2012 Genesis from the dealer (I bought it used a few months ago), there was an issue with the sunroof (it wouldn't close completely). The dealer said it was a broken track and had to repair it (delaying vehicle delivery by a few days). Might be an issue in the previous generation.

I am trying to determine a sunroof part called a tilt lever. Does anyone have a picture of this part? My sunroof is stuck on drivers side in tilt position.

I bought a 2012 last night and had the same problem. Fortunately I tested the sunroof before I purchased and it wouldn't close. Just made a grinding noise. I told them the sale is contingent on them fixing. They had to order the part so it won't be done until Tuesday. They gave me a loaner vehicle until then.

We too experienced this sunroof tilt issue this winter. We own a 2010 Genesis coupe which is garaged 85% of the time. Found the sunroof tilt open in the garage during a particularly cold spell and when we tried to close it, the sounds it made were obviously not right and led us to stop. Took it to local Hyundai dealer, who said over the phone it was likely off track, and left it with them to investigate. Later that day I was told their attempt to re-align it caused it to break and that the repair required a whole new sunroof assembly to the tune of $3200. This price seemed excessive so we haven't done anything about it. Does this price seem outrageous to anyone else? Should we take it elsewhere? Should we talk to a service manager about the probability of the technician breaking it in an attempt to re-align it? I want my sunroof back and fully operational

I would like to lube the sunroof on my 09 genesis sedan as I am hearing a slight sound when tilting it back down. Read in another web location that the glass can be removed by tilting it up allowing access to the screws that hold the glass on. Hoping you can let me know if this is how you got to the track, and maybe whether and how it should be lubed.

Is this still a problem in current production Genesis models?not sure if anyone checks this anymore but I have a 2013 track and my sunroof got suck on tilt and wouldn’t close. Went to the dealership and they manually closed it for me for free but estimated about $1.8k to fix the track. So it’s definitely still an issue with later models’

Sunroof is junk . Did what mcginnpm did.

I just discovered this thread after doing a search, since my 2010 4.6 sedan sunroof's "tilt" function just started malfunctioning tonight. Was able to remove the little accordion bellow-looking rubber pieces on the sides and pry the cracked piece apart far enough to close it back down. The right side tilt track is the one that cracked all the way apart, but it's visibly evident that the one on the left is on its way out as well (starting to crack). Has Hyundai updated the design on these at all? Has anyone on here tried to epoxy the cracked parts on to the metal frame around the plastic pieces?

This has not been a good week for my opinion of Hyundai, that's for sure. On Friday, I had this car in the shop for malfunctioning A/C, and they told me it needs a new A/C compressor and an expansion valve. Now this sunroof problem. This car is 12-13 years old, but it's hardly been driven (currently has ~17k miles), and was garaged most of its life. It's fun to drive, but this stuff does NOT match up with the reputation Hyundai has built. I know a few people who currently own Hyundai/Kia machines, and they've all had good experiences. Is this car just their problem child?

Anyone ever try the “repair kit” listed on eBay, shown as coming from Ch*na?
