  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hey everyone!

I just finished a Kicker Hideaway powered sub install. It was like a 20-minute installation. For anyone that has never done any A/V work before, you could do it without any problems if you have the right tools to do it, which are basic.

Thought I would mention this in case anyone else wants just a tad more bass to fill out the cabin (I mounted it on the rear seat back), but not car rattling bass. I do have a twin 12" sub system as well, but I'm not sure the box would fit in the tiny trunk and don't want that much bass right now.... maybe later haha.

That’s great! Got pics?

No, but I could take some if you’d like.

Yes please. That and some description of how you installed it and tied it to the factory rep.

Okay will do. I’ll try to get to it today or toMorrow after work.

Thanks for your feedback, that's exactly what I'm looking for: a little more bass without blowing up the whole trunk!
You confirm that it's easy, it motivates me to take the plunge.

Of course! I actually ended up getting a different 10” hideaway style one off Amazon for $100. The Kicker just didn’t have enough for me in this car. I had it in a Civic hatch prior, which allowed for better bass penetration.

As for the pics, there’s really only 3 things you need to do. First remove the trunk Matt and then the spare tire. Tap into the stock subwoofer wires. They’re the left most top and bottom two wires in the red harness, which is accessed from the back left trunk area, behind the little cover. Then splice those into the sub harness for the 4 high pass input wires. Use heat shrink tubing for a clean install once you test that all works. Then you connect the negative wire to the factory ground location. Then connect the positive to the battery connection. Start with your phase on 0, gain all the way down, and bass boost all the way down. Adjust as needed. If the speaker is brand new you need to break it in before cranking things up. This will help for better sound and longevity. Hope this helped.

Hey buddy, how does it look like if I may ask? I had a Kicker Hideaway in my previous car - Kia K5 and was able to put it under passenger front seat and it popped out a little. Given that G70 has a bit less leg space in the rear, I don't want to inconvenience the rear seat passenger. At the same time, I want to see if it is reducing the trunk space drastically or still manageable to fit a full sized check-in luggage bag, hence the ask :)

It doesn’t really take up any trunk space, since it’s mounted to the backside of the seat. I used the Velcro straps for easy removal if needed. So, the reduction in trunk volume is literally the depth of the speaker enclosure- so like 3” or so.

As I side note, I ended up swapping the Hideaway out for one of the Amazon 1000 watt equivalents and it provides much better bass response in the same footprint. I just used thicker gauge power wires.

Got it. Thank you very much !! I might get one soon. :)
