  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Genesis Model Type
1G Genesis Sedan (2009-2014)
so here's the deal! Im working with a local engine machine shop bc i just bought a 2014 gt500 supercharger to slap on the gen. The shop is currently making a custom manifold and pulley mount bracket to seat the supercharger. Before they put the supercharger on, i asked them to add a custom stroker kit, port the heads, and upgrade the cams to see how far can the engine be pushed without forced air. They say that it'll make 500-600whp bc that's what i asked for. Could prob push it up to 700-1000whp, but they say ill have to run e85 and/or spray to get those type of numbers. I dont want to full blown race car my genesis so im staying on 93 pump gas. I jus want to keep up with hellcats and corvettes. The only headache is where the f$%k am i gonna find someone that can tune the 5.0 ecu, they say they cannot tune it bc they never worked on a 5.0 tau engine/ecu before. Im not gonna be able to dyno nor drive the genny until i find someone that can tune the 5.0 Tau ecu, so if anyone has any info hmu asap. Some1 pls get the word out and let me know if u find something!

Please don't take this the wrong way but ever see the movie Money Pit with Tom Hanks?

This story has played out many many times over the years and has only ended in failure. Ever notice the RSpec has been out since 2012 and not 1 (well maybe a show car) has FI?

My suggestion is save your money for a Hellcat. This sadly is a dead end.

And out of curiosity how are you fitting an S/C under the hood? That engine bay is cramped.

Idk, i want to keep the hood somewhat low profile but if i have to, I'll find a company to make me a fiber glass hood with a cut out or scoop. My last resort for the ecu is jus to ditch the hyundai ecu and get a custom one made/programed to run the engine. The question is who will sponsor me and make me a ecu for this build because ik Hyundai wont give a shit about it since i voided the hell out of their warranty. Im already $6100+ into this build so im not stoping for shit now.

www.10fintec.com is a Canadian tuning company that might be able to give you more info. I know the first gen ECU has been cracked. I was going to get a custom ECU/TCU tune but decided the gains were not worth the cost. Would be different for you though., you are going full bore....
BTW the TCU tune will raise the redline and make it a true sport shift, might want to add that to your wish list.
Good luck!

For sure, ill have to reach out to them and see what they can do for me. The only down side is how do i get the car to canada from Texas bc i figured theyll need the whole vehicle to correctly dyno tune & etc. Thanks for your insight & and recommendations!

If you can find anyone on the forum that knows how to contact David Lee. He is the man who does the tuning, but he lives in South Korea. 10fintec flies him in for a tuning event once a year, he is the expert for our cars. Other tuning shops might be able to help, I only know of the one since it is local to me.

In to see if this Ever Happens...As was Said above, since 2012 NO ONE Has been Successful at this, and Many have tried...Good Luck!

First of all, good luck on the project! A super-charged R-Spec would honestly be a complete sleeper and the entertainment value alone of seeing people's astonished reactions would be worth it. That being said, I do feel like there's a lot of pain (and $$$) before payout, particularly regarding the innards of the engine. Granted I have no personal evidence whatsoever that the engine will or will not be up to the FI task unless it was designed for it, but it is good to be prepared for the worst. If you know the risks, and have the patience and resources, more power to ya'. I will say that you'd probably get a pretty good Youtube following if you pulled it off, which might offset some of the costs.

Good luck!

I have no experience working with them but they claim they have cracked the 5.0 ECU.

From my communication with them it appeared that they sell the canned tune that BTR used to sell. They do tuning events and fly in David Lee for custom tunes.

You may also have to spend money on custom internal engine parts like rods and crankshaft that can survive the extra stress of the extra power created by the supercharger. You may also need fuel injectors with a larger flow rate than stock. Plus, the stock transmission will probably be the main item that hold your project back since I do not know the power capacity of the 8-speed transmission. You may have to get it custom upgraded as well. The 3.3T G80 uses a similar 8-speed transmission that seems to hold up to extra boost, so the stock transmission may be up to the task. The problem is that many of the modded out 3.3T G80 is still fairly new and have low miles(<100k) so the verdict is still out on long term reliability of putting extra power on the stock transmission.

However, it sounds like you do have a nice project idea for a very unique sport sedan that will probably be the only supercharged Genesis 5.0 sedan on the road. Just be prepared to spend a crap load of money to make it happen.

That is precisely what my first concern would be. Rods followed by pistons, followed by main bearing.

According to this it's good for up to 390 ft lb

Well, only 390 ft/lbs. The stock 5.0 only makes about 383 ft/lbs so the transmission is already at it limits with the stock engine. I assume that the transmission is engineered to handle a bit more torque if the stock engine makes 383 ft/lbs; which is cutting it very close. However, there maybe a few modded out G80 sports out there pushing 400+ ft/lbs that will be having transmission clutch issues just outside the 100k mile warranty period; if not before.

I learned that you cannot just dump massive amount of boost on a stock engine without something breaking like the transmission. 2006 VW GLI with an APR stage 1 tune and my 6 speed DSG dual clutch started to slip after my many fun launch control assisted drag races. My 2001 Volvo S80 T6 was my first tuned turbo car to eat its automatic transmission with a stage 1 IPD tune after a few runs at the local drag way.

So the OP hasn’t updated this in over 2 months...I wonder what happened. Wish he would check in.

One of two things happened...

1) if he's truly making 600+ hp he's probably still on the highway picking up the remaining pieces of his transmission.

2) more likely, he's struggling, like us all, to find a tuning solution to manage all that power.

Well if he isn't checked in it may not be as exciting but I just locked in the last spot for the most recent batch of remnant performance BK2(coupe) 3.8 Turbo kits. And will be retrofitting the cold side pipe to account for the sedan upper plenum moving the TB location further back.. the sedan bay was created with the 5.0 tau in mind so me being a 3.8 I have plenty of room for a nice whirly gig under the hood. Helps the battery is in the trunk as well. You can check my sig this has been something I have had in the works for the past roughly 2 years just didn't want to make a post with an "idea" and have it end up like this one. I will be making a thread about it wouldnlove to have you guys follow along on the never ending search for a BHoosted BH platform.
