Suprising Win For Genesis in Canada

Surprisingly (or not) the Genesis won the AJAC 2015 Canadian Car of the Year for Luxury Car over $50,000.

They have the Mercedes C-class as best in the "under $50,000" luxury class. I looked at a C before buying my 3.8 Tech Genny. The "under $50,000" C is really bare-boned. No extras at all.

They go based on starting price. Doesn't matter what options are available that may increase the price, however the cars that are actually tested will have quite a few options when dropped off my the manufacturer.

The AJAC process for testing is over a few days and completed by auto journalists from across the country on various road tests and ratings on handling, styling, interior space, quality, etc. Rated on a score of 1-10.

There were 15 categories of winners, and all the contenders in each category had to be "new for 2015," so I think there were only 2-3 cars in each category. The Genesis competed against the Acura RLX Sport Hybrid and Cadillac ATS Coupe. The Genesis was an AWD, as are all 2015 Genesis models in Canada.

So then with the base Genesis starting at $45,110 in Canada, why is it in the $50,000+ category? You need to get into ultimate trim on a V6 to get into those figures. I have no clue how they determined the $50,000+ category, makes no sense at all IMHO.

EDIT, These guys are on drugs or something. The Mercedes C class starts at $43,000 in Canada and can obviously be dressed up to exceed $50,000 however it won in the less than $50,000 category. The ATS coupe also starts at 43,000 and can also be dressed up (barely) to exceed $50,000 yet it was with the Genesis in the $50,000+ category. Very confused to say the least. By the way, I sent AJAC an email to clarify how they determine this.

For what it's worth, the K900 Elite V8 was also against Genesis.
