If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Surround sound

"Wendell tuned the suspension by the seat of his pants"? Is it possible one person and only one person was the designer and "check off" man for the suspension of the Genesis? It just can't be true! What company would allow the design of such an essentail component rest in the hands of one guy? I assume that this Wendell (really?) oversaw a team of engineers and testers who tweaked the suspension until Wendell was happy? If true then the least Wendell deserves (has earned) is a demotion...his efforts could well (may still) torpedo the entire Genesis effort. How often have you read "but for the suspension this is really a top notch car"....

I digress. My surround also doesn't remain selected and of course the occasional total shut down of the sound is really inspiring! Oil change scheduled tomorrow and I will mention the radio...lets just see the response

Best of luck to ya Wendall

Thanks Seatle! Wow I mean WOW...I'm speechless! I don't know where to begin! I think Mark888 has his finger on the pulse: these guys built a car for the professional reviewer. There is no way Wendell drove the 2009 daily and was happy with their efforts. NO WAY. The thing is I sheesh I'm at a loss for words.

Update / Upgrade Audio

Hello fellow Genesis owners,
After sending out the below listed correspondence & information to the powers that be on my / our surround sound settings not remaining checked after each ignition start. I recieved the below information that indicates an update / upgrade to our existing Lexicon systems is in the works. This is what I prefer rather than tearing out the unit and installing a new one. Below you will find a good contact e-mail who seems to be in the know if you have any further questions, hope this gives those of us that have this issue some encouragement.
The contact person at Harman was: John [john.mcmullen@harman.com]

RE: Lexicon Premium Audio 2012 Hyundai Genesis Sedan R-Spec,

I am a recent owner of the above vehicle with the Lexicon 17 speaker configuration. Many units being shipped by lexicon do not retain their surround sound setting on various sources forcing the customer to re-set the surround sound check box every time after each new ignition start. Many customers are having their entire head unit replaced at a great cost to the company. Is their another way to re-flash the system to allow it to function properly? Is this a Hyundai (HMA) error done by their programmers’ or lexicon’s? Either way I do not care to chase this issue in circles.

Please note the links below for more information.

Sincerely,
Tim

Hello Tim,

Thank you for your e-mail. Harman and Hyundai Motors are currently in the process of addressing the situation that you are describing below. If you would like, I can inform you as to when a software update is available.
Kind regards,

John

Yes, please inform me when the update / upgrade is available. Curious what time frame are you looking at? Will it a few days or a few weeks or months?
How will this update be implemented, via Hyundai service dept., disk or USB?

Sincerely,
Tim

Hello Tim,

Updated software was submitted to Hyundai today. However, the responsible engineer is out of the office until Monday. I would suspect approval of the update would not take more than 1 – 2 weeks. I however do not know what format and timing of it being released to the Hyundai service centers and then to the vehicle owners. I will certainly keep you updated as information comes my way. I would suggest you touch base with me in 2 – 3 weeks if you have not received an update from me.

Kind regards,

John

This is great news. I'm experiencing the same issue with my R spec. Please let us know when you hear something.

timc1475 nothing? Your last post was 3 weeks ago and I was waiting for a follow up. No news of an update/fix for the surround sound deselect with off ignition?

My 2012 3.8 had the problem with the surround re-setting every time I turned the car off. I took it to the dealer and they ordered a new head unit. They installed the new head unit and the surround sound problem is fixed. The head unit is defective however, as it will not eject my CDs. They are ordering another unit. Oh well. At least they're trying......

I have a 2012 4.6 and have the surround sound setting issue. I would appreciate it to see a software fix and not have to have the head unit replaced, although I am disappointed that the car does not have Bluetooth audio. :(

I have the surround sound problem also with my R-Spec.
I am not so sure it is a software issue. Reason I write this is that the setting is not immediately lost on power shut off. It will stay "set" for a period of time, which is usually up to an hour or so. Software problems are usually consistent and immediate.
My sense is the settings are "held" by tiny capacitors in the circuit board, which capacitors act as batteries. Possibly the capacitors are weak/faulty. All this means the "fix" is a new audio head unit. Hyundai probably rebuilds the faulty units. I doubt they are just discarded.

You mean Bluetooth Music Streaming? It does have that. It's weird how I'm seeing more R-Specs and 4.6 versions being affected by this surround sound issue, I have the 2012 3.8 w/ Premium and the surround sound option stays on with no issues when turning the car on and off.

It could possibly be with only Technology Packages.

DominicJE the complaint of no Bluetooth Audio Streaming is constant and yet the manual (the DIS manual ) states that it does...maybe people have a tough time using it but it is present!

I guess I do not know the difference between the audio packages.

Mine has the knob and not the touchscreen. I think the cars without the knob that have touchscreen have Bluetooth streaming, but the ones that have the 17 speaker technology package do not. If you have the knob 17 speaker setup and know how to get bluetooth streaming set, I would appreciate the knowledge.

I've connected two Android phones to my R-Spec (an Atrix and a Galaxy S2), and neither gave me the option to connect bluetooth to Media audio. The only option either phone shows is Phone audio.

I checked a bit ago, and the DIS manual for my R-Spec does not mention streaming media via Bluetooth. In fact, it specifically says that phones, when connecting via Bluetooth, must support (only) Hands Free and Phone Book Access profiles.

I sent an e-mail today to John McMullen. It would be to all our benefit if more of us e-mail him as well on this issue. His e-mail is listed below with the original conversation. More than likely it is on the Hyundai programmers plate as we type...I seriously would prefer and update instead of total replacement unit. Can you imagine the added cost of replacement verses update? I also contacted Hyundai customer service. Now they all need to shake hands and make it happen. Posted this on the Hyundai think tank previously. The squeaky wheel gets oiled so everyone start squeaking.

PS: Interesting read / take below on this from REY as well, unfortunately maybe we all will have to have head unit replacements, but I will wait up to 10 days more for a response from John Mcmullen:

Thanks for the leg work Timc1475! Thanks for "squeaking". Should more of us continue to write to Hyundai about this? Cuminic8 I'm away from home and the DIS manual so I can't site chapter and verse for the streaming audio. I will do it when I can. I have the 2012 tech model and I distinctly remember seeing the information. I don't stream audio so I can't vouch for how well it works only that I saw information in the manual that it can.

Okay so we do not have the streaming Bluetooth on the Technology packaged cars. We have instead the wired Ipod adapter, which I figured out last night will plug into and charge my IPhone 4. I can then stream Pandora through the phone and hear the music through the sound system and it sounds great! It will also advance to the next song by pressing the next track arrow on the steering wheel.

Yes it is inconvenient to have to plug in the phone each and everytime you get in the car but it does work and probably is a better sound wired than what you can get with Bluetooth?

As far as the surround sound not staying checked I have an appointment for this Friday.
