  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

i posted that i am looking for answers on buying a 2009 or 2010 and have read about this suspension issue .

i drive very often in europe and of course in the usa and elsewhere
so here are my two bits

no one can beat the suspension tuning of german cars .period

next comes the jaguar.

of course the citroen is not sold in the usa but also good depending on model

japanese cars ,are so so

korean cars are new to the game .

if you are used to usa cars you will ,depending on your age and how you drive ,find big differences between the countries listed above.

now the genesis

i have taken a few test rides ,on the 09 and the 10 and find it ,the suspension, very good given the experience or lack of it that the koreans have .

but then ,i have an fx35 which is not only sort of harsh but given the rsa tires on it the car is very nervous and follows every single line or crack on the road and i love this .
it is a sports car in a sedan chasis .
but then i inflate my tires to maximun at all times .
maximun means for 4 adults and luggage in a car .and speeds in excess of 100 mph.
and this translates into ,usually , anywhere from 6 to 10 lbs over what the car asks for .

in my 9.5 saab aero 2000 the car asks for ,i think 36 lbs. i usually run it at 43 lbs. and love it .you may not .

so , it is possible that the 09 have a harsh suspension when you comnpare it to the german cars and worse compared to the usa cars.

it all depends of where you are coming from and what you like .

the older mb 420 and 560 s and sl's were great riding cars but i usually pumped up the tires to over 10 lbs. over the ask for and in exchange it changed the personality of the car making it into a great handlingcar for its size and weight.

having said this ,i read that the 2010 ,and i have driven to 09 vs the 10 back to back ,have suspension mods..probably they made it more complaint to adapt to usa drivers ,who knows .

maybe the 09 was tuned for great road holding at the expense of comfort. the answer to this lies in road magazines testing the 2010 and posting slalom course speed and g forces...then we will know .

and the ultimate answer rests on the customer and what he is used to and what he wants .

again, nothing beats a german car for handling/compliance. and some ,such as the older 911's and beemers are rough.

the newer ones with the adaptive suspensions are a great compromise and this is now in the parts parts inventory of most car makers including the 911 base. and all th enew beemers

hope this helps you guys

having a bad day here in connecticut buried in snow so here i am in front of the comouter

On my recent trip out to South Central New Mexico, my trunk was loaded and heavy with "Christmas Gifts". My Genesis had a great ride. Softer than when the trunk was empty. On my return trip to Central Florida, I still had "stuff" in the trunk, but not nearly as much as on my way out. The Genesis still road very good. Now that my trunk is again empty, the ride is somewhat "stiff", mostly when I drive on rough city streets, however I am now (after all these months) getting used to it.

(The stiff suspension does cause it to handle great out on the open road)

I logged about 200 miles yesterday as a passenger in a recent Toyota Avalon. The car was bought used and I don't know (and the driver didn't know) whether it had the touring suspension. We had 2 ladies in the back seat and a light load in the trunk.

At any rate, the Avalon rode just as hard as my Genesis V-8. In several places, the driver moved to the inside lane to avoid some rough patches that I would have simply ignored. The Avalon was quiet, but no quieter than the Genesis,

All Genny's ride great on great roads that are very smooth, Why would we expect different the suspension has nothing to do.

The 09 rides harsh I put 8 bags of 40 pounds of water softener salt in the ruck it improved the ride, basically this overcomes the high rear spring rate by giving the springs more weight to deal with. But their is no room in the trunk. I can buy soft lead sheeting and put about 240 / 310 pounds and only loose about 1 inch of trunk floor, it spreads the load nicely and should not effect a crash or significantly effect gas mileage or braking. But a very non elegant solution.

I can buy a 10 which rides better or put the 10 springs and shocks in the rear, which is what I am still trying to do. Running test with, no shocks installed at all and then softer shocks trying to decide is it just the springs. I can finally order the 2010 springs and 2010 shocks but want to do the most cost efficient thing and also understand what is going on.

The rim diameter reduction (18 to 17"), tire change from Dunlops 5000m to Goodyear Assurance Comfort Treads and lower pressure to 30psi, all made detectable improvement but no where near enough. I have driven and owned many German cars and also Japanese cars the rode very acceptably. Hope things are resolved in early 2010
Also installing my Yellow Fog Lamps, Sylvania ultras high Beams and Louder Horns.

Merry Christmass and Happy , Healthy and Peaceful New Year to all !!
