  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

This may not be scientific, but it's a start. Please indicate your Manufacture Date ( you can find it on the body when you open the driver door) and whether you find the Suspension Unacceptably Harsh or Acceptable............ for purposes of this survey we will leave out " The suspension is not harsh but could be better" since this is more subjective. What we are looking for is if there is a correlation between Manufacture Date and Harsh Suspensions.

Also, you may as well state if you have the V6 or V8

I will start

Manufacture Date : July 2008
Suspension: Acceptable
Model: V6 Tech

I don't agree with the lack of a middle ground, because short of the wheels falling off, the whole issue can be argued as subjective regardless of the view.

Mft Date: Nov. 2008
Suspension: Acceptable (with room for improvement)
Model: V6 Tech

The reason I don't want to include the middle ground is that I am trying to find out if "Harsh" Suspension is related to Manufacture Date

Everyone will have an opinion on whether the suspension can be improved or not.I want to leave that out of this survey because it will render the results useless for what I am trying to figure out.

Unless, of course, my middle ground or "qualified acceptable" is someone else's unacceptable. But it's your survey :)

You can only speak for yourself I'm afraid :)

The point is to figure out if Harsh is related to manufacture date. If you would not go so far as to consider your suspension harsh then it has to be on the other side of the equation. Thanks for your input

I hope those who find the suspension Harsh participate in the survey otherwise we can't conclude anything. At the end of the survey I want to be able to say arsh suspensions are related to manufacture date or Not

Suspension: acceptable (but firm)

V6 with 18" wheels,
MFG date Dec 08

FWIW, I really think there was a bad batch of suspension components and/or tires. I get no suspension noise, very little "jittery" behavior, and no porpoising. I just can't believe anyone would find my car unacceptably harsh. So I'm happy, but if I had to drive on bad roads all the time, I'd wish it was softer sprung.

Date: Nov 2008
Suspension on Paved Road: Acceptable (although a bit bouncy)
Suspension on Rough Road: Unacceptable
Model: V6 Tech

The car is unable to absorb any road imperfections.

I will take this one down as Unacceptably Harsh for purposes of this survey unless you have any objections

Should we take this as Unacceptablly Harsh? Thats what I will do unless I hear from you

Mine was manufactured on May 23, 2008.

I think the ride is fine. We have very smooth roads in South Florida so I rarely hit a rough road and never hit a pot hole.

I just changed all four tires a couple of days ago to Michelins (same size as the originals). I got a screw in one of the tires in a place that could not be repaired. The Goodyear dealer phoned several places and searched on his computer and said the nearest original tire was in Tennesee. I was in a hurry and I decided to get all new Michelins rather than mix tires by different manufacturers. (My decision, didn't get talked into it. I had to be some place soon). I'm sure that tire stores love people like me. No time for debating the pro and cons of one tire over another. Just do it and get me out of here.

I have had the car for eleven months and have a little less than 3,000 miles. So I was not pleased to throw out three perfectly good tires.

At any rate I don't think there is anything wrong with the tires that came with the car. If I had not had the tires changed myself I would never know the car had new tires. The ride feels the same to me.

Is yours a V6 or V8?

Having read hundreds of posts on this forum (maybe thousands), and also many on other forums, and reading many reviews from the auto press, I can tell you that you are barking up the wrong tree. Both the V6 and V8 for all 2009 models have similar suspension issues on uneven pavement (except for those who think that denial is a river in Africa).

Based on what I can tell, there are some differences depending on weather (rear springs are very jittery in cold weather), weight distribution (which is affected to some degree by the engine type and many people say adding weight to the trunk helps dampen the rear springs), and maybe a few other minor variables.

But unless they made production changes very recently, I don't think there are differences based on manufacture date, and except for the slight weight distribution differences of the V6 and V8 models, both models have the same basic issue.

There are also some people who drive on smooth roads almost all the time, who have never noticed (or rarely notice) the issue.

Another difference is in the personality of the owner (cognitive dissonance, etc) or whether they have skin in the game. There are many people on this forum who are associated in some way with Hyundai (or have friends or relatives that are) who are posing as "objective" consumers.

But the good news is that Hyundai has improved the suspension for 2010, and the only thing we can do is wait and see if the changes can be retrofitted to 2009.

If you have nothing to add stay out of this survey.... If you wish to post your info please do
