  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

So, after noticing the issues we have with our DRLs buring up so rapidly. I decided to investigate and found some interesting things. To my attention when i removed the oem socket and bulb i saw some charring on the socket. After getting a closer look at the socket, it seems to be an 1157 socket with the parking light tab missing. This was odd to me because a filament was completelt wasted in the bulbs i was purchasing.

So i decided to goto amazon and grab an 1156 socket which will make more sense in our applications considering the vehicle does the work of the flashing.

I swapped sockets and installed a led 1156 bulb in its place (load resistors are actually built into the bulb) so no extra wiring on that end and no worrying about mounting the resistors.

Result came out logical and functional as expected. Pictures attached... video was not allowed unfortunatly.

Hey Jlopez3983, sorry to resurrect this post. I'm looking to make the switch to 1156 as well. How are the LEDs holding up as DRL with the swap?

It didn't still having problems today. Next step is doing the drl swap to the led strip in the headlamp. Haven't found a bulb to handle the abuse yet. Small fix... If you keep your headlamps in the on position, they shut off automatically after a little bit when you turn the car off. It will eliminate the abuse on the drls.

Thanks for the update. I like having the lights on so I've been doing some research on other vehicles using the turn as signal and DRL (VW, Dodge, etc.) and I think I'm going to try something very soon. I just replaced the 2357 socket and the bulb blew out 36 hours later so I'm feeling the push to experiment without getting into all the rewiring of the accent lights.

did you see my drl led bulb mod ?

You have to use 2357LL(long life bulbs). My last set of 2357LL bulbs has been working fine for about 3 years now without failing.

Tried these with no success

@carguy75 I've been buying the Sylvania LL bulbs lasting anywhere from 3-6 months. I almost bought the Philips from your posts but I wanted to make sure my socket change out worked and it didn't. Driver light still not working.

What wrong with your new socket or better yet your old socket? Seems like the light socket is not the issue.

The 2357NALL bulbs works for me so far for 3 years. Just buy the Phillip 2357NALL bulbs. They are cheap and work.:)

Sockets use an 1157 style bulb from OE. Which is odd because theyre only using one filament.

long story. Hyundai intended to use a new led bulb in that socket but the led bulb was never developed. the led bulb model is listed in the 2015 sedan manual but it does not exist. So they used a regular incandescent 1157 bulb and the one filament has a short life and the sockets do get hot and discolor. I just use 2357LL bulbs and they last years.

Did the last that long by using them as DRLs?

Yes. I have used the Phillips 2357NALL bulbs about 1 1/2 hours a day as DRL on my ride home from work in the mornings for nearly three years. No burned out bulb as of yet.

If they do burn out soon, I would just another $8 pair which hopefully last another 3 years.

Correct socket. However, 1157 bulbs are not intended for DRL use. Blinkers or brake lights only. You need a 2357NALL bulb in the socket to handle DRL use.
