  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Tale of two car companies...Lexus and Genesis

Wouldn’t it have been cheaper to just buy an extended warranty?
Perhaps, but I also needed more space as there was an addition to the family and a sedan was no longer practical.

The comparable company would be Audi. Neither BMW nor MB have major standard brands but Audi is the luxury portion of Volkswagen just as Genesis is the luxury portion of Hyundai. One could also look at Cadillac and Lincoln although GM and Ford no longer have the broad range of car models that one can find from VW and Hyundai. But, ultimately, it shouldn't matter. If you are selling a particular product, you need to be at least competitive if not better than others and that includes post sales service.
Audi is far behind BMW and Mercedes in sales and their best-selling vehicle making a third of their US sales, the Q5, is built in Mexico. They offer a much bigger lineup of models than Genesis, but on a model-by-model basis they barely outsell the Genesis equivalents, save the locally built Q5.

I don't understand your point. Mine was that in comparing companies, an apples to apples comparison would be for a company that has a parent with both full luxury and standard brands. I was just suggesting that comparing Genesis to BMWs or Mercedes is comparing apples to oranges as these companies don't have full standard brand lines like Kia and Hyundai do for Hyundai parent. I didn't include companies such as Honda because their "luxury" lines are so limited.

I wasn't drawing any conclusions for such a comparison, just that it would be the best comparison. The fact that the Audi brand barely outsells the Genesis brand would support my argument that Audi would be the best comparable company.
