  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I noticed that a lot of tar is deposited on one exhaust pipe. It takes about 300 miles to build, after cleaning. The other pipe remains clean. Is it a symptom of some issue with the engine?

Are you seeing it on the bottom of the oval exaust pipe? Maybe an inch or so along the bottom edge, as if dirty water has been running out then dries. I get that on both pipes. It seems to wash away easily but I, too, am getting concerned.

Exactly. What bothers me is the speed with which it builds, and the fact that it is asymmetric.

I'm gonna' have my dealer look at that... since I lease it I want it to be noted that it's been that way since I got it 3 months ago. The color & package I wanted was at another dealer 2 counties away and by the time I got the car it had 260 miles on it. Unsure how hard the car was driven in those miles, there may have been some abuse on the engine during that critical break-in time. On cold mornings I do notice steam comming from my exaust at the first couple of stop lights, more that other cars, maybe it's just condensation dripping out & leaving those stains. It's odd that your situation is only on one side. Anybody out there have ideas / comments for us???

This may be just low quality gasoline. Let me know what your dealer will say.
