  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I intend on creating a thread for people to post technical specs, technical questions, and experiences for the Tau V8 engine. There doesn't seem to be a lot of technical specs I can find compiled in one place, so that is what that will be.

Also I welcome comparisons to other engines.

Has anyone else noticed the similarities between the 5.0 Tau V8 and lexus' 2UR-GSE in the IS-F? Both 5.0 litres, 11.8:1 compression ratio, oversquare, variable valve timing on intake and exhaust, variable runner intake manifolds, etc. Both produced around the same time they are very comparable in output, 416 hp vs 419 hp.

Does anyone know the firing order for this engine?

Nice thread.

Hyundai probably got some "ideas" from Toyota or vise versa. I would guess that Toyota developed the overall design first since both of the 5.0 engines are based on the 4.6 engines made by each automaker. Toyota made the 4.6 V8 engine first I believe. Therefore, the 4.6 Tau may be based on the Toyota 4.6 design or concept. Which is not new since most automakers copy each other engine designs to a point with their own recipe added in to make a production engine for the brand.

Here is the firing order.

I don't know if this will help but @478slimm is doing a LS swap to his DH. He found out that the LS swap motor mounts for the lexus bolt right up to our stock motor mount points.

Do you have more info on the camshafts? Mostly lift, duration and lobe separation?

Also anyone happen to know if this is a mild cam profile or a more aggressive one?

Can someone explain how the engine adjusts the tuning (timing) for 87 vs 91 octane?

I don’t think it has anything similar to a flex fuel sensor, and I can’t imagine a guess and check with knock sensors would be too sustainable.

(New KIA/Hyundai owner) are there any popular performance shops for people with the 5.0? Like tuning, bolt on parts, suspension?

Thank you for any help!
