Tau 5.0 vs Ford 5.0?

I've been in an argument with a buddy who is convinced the Tau 5.0 is based off the ford 5.0. He's thinking becase hyundai is partially owned by ford (so he says) that it was built based off the ford 5.0. I haven't found any evidence stating it is or not. I don't believe it is just based off it being manufactured in Korea and that it had received awards for the engine. It is also suspicious that both did go from the 4.6 to a 5.0 around the same time. Does anyone have some input?

Hyundai is not partially owned by Ford. He is probably thinking of Mazda, which at one time they owned 33% of, but has now shrunk to below 5%.

Hyundai switched from 4.6 to 5.0 in 2012. I am not an expert, but I thought the Ford 5.0 has been around for a lot longer (or at least Mustang 5.0)?

I think he got it wrong when he was reading that ford bought out over half of the shares in kia at 51%. And becasue it's the "Hyundai Kia motor company" he thought ford had 51% of Hyundai also. And ford had the 5.0 before Hyundai I believe but then went to the 4.6 then back to the 5.0 around the same time as the Hyundai

Hyundai at one time owned 51% of Kia, but that is now about 33%. Hyundai and Kia continue to have extensive technology sharing agreements, and both use parts made by Mobis, which is 17% owned by Kia. Kia also owns various percentages of a lot of other Hyundai subsidiaries.

Searching the internet, it looks like Ford once had a stake in Kia, but not sure they do anymore.
