  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Just an FYI for you folks that have the Tech Package and no XM subscription... it's that time of year when XM gives 60 free channels to everybody without subscriptions. Thus we can test the theory that when the XM subscription expires the Tech package systems seem to have problems with the voice function locking up the system.

XM says Jan 30 to Feb 12 is when the freebie trial happens... so get ready for voice system issues two weeks into Feb!

There's still a couple days before this happens (hits the fan?) so if you don't want XM you might consider checking XM channel 0 on your car to get the radio ID and then telephone XM and ask them to DELETE that ID from their inventory. Maybe that'll prevent the freebie activation on your car and the subsequent voice system screw-ups. It'd be a good science project if folks that a) do call XM and say "delete my ID" post that... and then post their results with the voice system in late Feb and b) those folks that do not have XM subscriptions and don't make the "delete me" phone call make a post followed by an update of the voice system status later in Feb.

I have/use XM so my 2009 Tech package doesn't experience this issue... I won't be a useful data point in this science project.

Could be! I hadn't really heard of this theory on here, but my XM trial expired the end of November and all of a sudden I started to experience the voice controls locking up my system.

I never really used the voice features for working the stereo or navi, but I did like to use it for voice dialing my wife. Since it seemed to be locking up more frequently I just use the phone button and select her # manually from the list now:rolleyes:

Will give it a try if I remember in the coming week. I've been contemplating the 6mo for $25 deal, but will hold off for the free trial.

Yeah, XM is worth 5 bucks a month IMHO. But it is defnitely not the $15 regular price they want to charge.

I had it back in the day and it was commercial free then, now it's commercials and really lame "DJs" on most of the music channels:rolleyes: That was pre SiriusXM...dumbest thing the gov't did was let them merge. They held the price-line for 6mos and then jacked everyone up.

Ok to follow up on this. I did use my voice control 2 or 3 times during the free trial for both navi and phone calls and it worked without a hitch. Should have tried it more, but I kinda trained myself not to use it anymore:rolleyes:

Well the free trial expired yesterday. So I tried to do a voice command a few miles from my house coming home from work today...that way if it locked up the system I wouldn't have to suffer with it for long till turning off the car:o Anyway, I pushed the voice command button and NOTHING. It didn't lock up the system, but it cut out all the sound (like the silent amp problem):( Got home, shut off the car, got the mail, turned the car back on and it was back to "normal".

This is anecdotal evidence of course, but the voice command issue does seem to be linked to not having an active XM account. Also, I finally logged into the XM website and created account which I never did for my original free trial included in the CPO sale. For some reason it listed me as having 20 days remaining on a 3 month trial??? So I requested an activation signal be sent to my XM radio since it clearly stopped working after the trial yesterday. If it comes back on tomorrow I'll give the voice commands another shot.

this explains why my voice control sometimes locks up and gives me no control over my audio buttons both on steering wheel and dash and DIS. very strange, but this is exactly the problem i have as others have as well.

You get what you pay for...

I had this problem in the past and brought it in to the dealer but it worked in the shop. As soon as I left the dealer it stopped working again. Asked the tech to step outside to observe it. He stated that he would have to research the problem. I scheduled an appointment and a loaner but voice activation started working again.

Posted the above and Mikec eluded to the fact that it might be XM radio.

Called XM and explained the situation and asked if the would remove my XM radio ID from their list. They said the would and that maybe a corporate person would call me for details since they haven't head of the problem before. No one ever called.

Well, about 2-3 weeks ago voice activation stopped again. This time, did nothing except trying it every now and then and just the other day it's been working fine.

Spooky.

Just an FYI for all....

I've had 3 engineers work on this problem on my car in Feb 2011.
(all 3 engineers were 1 from Hyundai -Korea, 1 from XM radio and 1 from Hyundai USA)

Since they worked on my car in Feb. 2011, I have NOT experienced 1 single problem with Voice activation. In fact I have had several free trials of XM since and ZERO problems.

What I know is that they did a beta firmware upgrade to my unit and it's been working flawlessly since!

Wish I new more so I can share.

Regards,
