If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Tech Package w/CarPlay or Ultimate w/o CarPlay

I would live the larger display but tech is awesome. I would have a hard time giving up carplay

I think I've decided to go with the Ultimate! I was thinking I'll probably always wish I had the extra features I won't have on the Tech package. With the Ultimate I'll just be compromising on using native maps or my phone display, but I'll still have maps. Plus if by some miracle, Hyundai figures out how to put carplay on the ultimate, I'll regret it.

I'll update everyone on my thoughts once I get my car!

Had a heads up display in my Z06 Corvette. I don't really miss it.

That said, CarPlay still isn't working for me as there is something wrong with my USB port (or head unit).

That'd frustrate me too if I foregoed the ultimate package and the carplay didn't work.

specifically went with tech for android auto...never pay to update maps and tied to built in infotainment.

I really wanted my next car to have Apple Carplay and Android Auto so when I read the Genesis supported it, I was all about it. After many hours of research and asking questions on this forum I learned the same, that the Ultimate package didn't support it. I went with the Ultimate because of all the extra nice things (HUD, matte-wood and aluminum trim, power trunk and extra speakers) and I don't regret not having ACP & AA. I did just pay for the Maps update to 12.5 and it wasn't really that bad. I don't feel like I'm missing out on AA or ACP because the infotainment on the Ultimate pretty much supports everything I need. I've actually started using Pandora more since it's a supported application, and it works nicely. The Siri hands free feature is nice to have and now that the 12.5 maps update supports text messages, I have all I need. If I really need Waze, I just pull my phone out for the time I need it then hide it again... Sorry for the long post, but there are so many things that could be said about this topic. I really do hope that Hyundai doesn't forget about us and finds a way to make it work....

Thanks fulano! This is the exact reply I was looking for. I'm glad you aren't regretting it. Car with ultimate package has been transferred to my local dealership. Going to go test drive and maybe by today!

How did it go? Bring it home?

I did get it! I'm now an official member of this forum! Still trying to get used to the car. Will post details on first impressions once a little later. Thanks to everyone who provided input earlier.

Congrats on the new car. I had a similar quandary when I got mine in September. I ended up going with Tech as I find CarPlay super useful (had used it in past rental cars) and I kill my commute with podcasts and Spotify which are great using CarPlay. And with the just announced (at the time) iOS12 update bringing Google Maps and Waze native support, that really pushed it over the top for me as I work in the NYC metro area and often have to drive to jobsites and the OEM nav doesn't cut it for this area's traffic. I do miss the DIS controller I had in my 09, but that wasn't touch neither.

OK, so it's been a month since I got the car so I'll give my first impressions. I ended up getting a 2016 3.8 RWD Ultimate in Empire State Gray with the Ivory Interior and 40k miles. I got the car from CarMax shipped for $750 from Maryland to Texas as it was the only Ultimate within my price range (under $26k) that I could get my hands on in the time frame I needed. Bought the CarMax warranty for $2000 that covers it fully for 5 years or until the car hits 125,000 miles. Missed out on a CPO Ultimate for $25k and 26k miles by a day but still no regrets.

THE GOOD
1) ULTIMATE!

So in reference to this post's original question. I don't regret getting the Ultimate AT ALL. I still wish I had the option of carplay but I find the features that the Ultimate comes exceeding the value of carplay. I think if I had gotten the tech package, I would've missed the other features more so than missing carplay. I upgraded the navigation to the latest firmware and it is not bad at all. My car still has the Sirius XM traffic so it still has some traffic information. Colors and graphics are much nicer than I have seen in other cars.
2) HUD!
Love the heads up display. I really enjoy seeing the speed, speed limit, navigation, lanes keep assist, blind spot detection and emergency warning all in front of my eyes. It makes the car feel more like a new toy with shiny bells instead of just another vehicle to get around. I think I would notice some of these features much less if they confined to the dash.
3) POWER TRUNK!
Love the power trunk feature. It's so much nicer to be able to walk to the car and have the trunk open when your hands are full as well as closing it when your hands are full.
4) GENESIS LOGO!
The genesis logo that illuminates from the sideview mirrors is a very nice touch. Love seeing the crystal clear logo on the ground.
5) SMOOTH AND QUITE!
Coming from a 2007 Camry SE, this car is extremely quiet and smooth in comparison.
6) INTERIOR WOOD AND IVORY!
The ash black matte wood trim is gorgeous and I'm fully bought into the ivory interior after wavering between black and ivory. Makes it feel more unique.

THE NOT SO GOOD (I don't find these huge deals thus why I don't list this as THE BAD)
1) REARVIEW BACKUP CAMERA
The rearview backup camera quality is pretty bad especially in the dark. I had a 2017 Hyundai Elantra as my rental car and the quality was much much better in day and night. Anyone know if cameras can be upgraded easily with newer higher resolution models?
2) UGLY PLASTIC SEAT EXTENSION
When the driver seat leg extension moves forward, the plastic underneath is black. Wish they had color matched this with the Ivory leather as I have seen in some youtube videos on the Korean models. Or did what the G90 does where no plastic is shown and the leg extension actually unfurls out from the underside. It just looks a little cheap with the black plastic tarnishing the nice look of the ivory leather. Maybe someone makes plastic film/skin that we can adhere here like the link below? Clearance looked a bit tight so not sure if it would bind.

3) SENSOR FAILURES.
My car's Auto Emergency Braking, Electronic Parking Brake, Smart Cruise Control and Auto hold all failed at once the second day I had the car. Missed out on the first full week with the car in the shop awaiting a new module which supposedly fixed all the issues. CarMax actually took it across the street to have Hyundai fix it for free. They claimed the car was still under Hyundai warranty but I thought only powertrain was covered with a second owner. But luckily they got it fixed with no issues.
4) PLASTIC PROTECTIVE COVER
Spent about 30 mins scraping the plastic protective cover that had deteriorated on the radar cover. Why won't dealers take this off? But looks brand new now.
5) SCRATCHES IN IVORY
Scratches in Ivory leather stand out much more. The center console arm rests had two scratches that are black underneath and are easily noticeable.
6) KEY FOB FAILURES
One of my key fobs drained the battery after a week. Battery had been replaced 3 times, with the keyfob failing after a week each time. CarMax key guy ran tests and found it faulty and replaced the key fob. Noticed one of the key fobs drained again....I'm thinking the key guy accidentally replaced the wrong one? Going back again Wednesday. I had a 2018 model keyfob programmed and have not had any issues with it.
7) GPS ROUTE OPTIONS
Not sure if it's because I haven't figured it out yet, but my GPS tends to avoid toll roads. I know you can deselect this in route options but why can't this be a default overall so I don't have to worry about it? I live in DFW where toll roads are everywhere and don't want to be routed to frontage roads.
8) NO OPTION FOR ECO MODE AS DEFAULT
Still not sure how much gas mileage ECO mode saves but why must I have to activate it each time I drive?
9) HOOD SIGHTLINES
I'm still getting used to the car and find that the hood is much bigger than my old Camry and find it a bit harder to judge my parking
10) DOOR HANDLE EXTERIOR BUTTON
Wish the button was on the interior of the handle so you could open the doors all in one motion. I think a Lincoln I played with at CarMax had this and was pretty nice.

I know I have more "not so goods" than "goods" but as we all know it's easier to complain that praise. But I do enjoy the car much more than my old boring 2007 Camry SE that couldn't accelerate worth a lick.

I've also made some nice cosmetic upgrades
1) Upgraded to new G80 emblems. These just look much nicer in my opinion.
2) Door latch aluminum covers from ebay. These are really nice and just give it a bit of bling. Aluminum Door Inside Catch Plate 4PC For 2016~2018+ Hyundai Genesis Sedan G80 | eBay
3) Door striker covers. Got these from this forums shop but still haven't installed them yet. Removed the plastic OEM cover and tried to install with the thinner 3M adhesive but didn't fit. Will try with the thicker adhesive tonight. If that doesn't work, not sure how to keep them on.
4) Rear vent aluminum cover. I'm still awaiting delivery of this but I had always thought the rear was a bit bland. So hoping these will give the rear a bit of luxury feel to it. Metal Interior Panel 2nd Blowing Cover For Hyundai Genesis G80 2017~2018+ | eBay
5) Alloy pedals and accelerator. Very nice and not hard to install at all.

Upgrades I haven't done yet but want to.
1) I'm had bought a LED light strip to get more light on the truck cargo interior but found what I bought not to be compatible with the connection as it was built for the first gen connections using a LED festoon. I had put LED tubes in my camry trunk so I've been used to much brighter interior cargo trunk lights. Anyone done this with the 2nd gen?
2) There doesn't seem to be a Hyundai genesis alloy dead pedals for the sedan. I had bought the coupe one but seemed to be a completely different trapezoidal shape rather than rectangular. Found an old post where someone had installed this in their 1st gen but not sure if it works in the 2nd gen. Bought a Hyundai Elantra dead pedal that seems to be more rectangular but also seems too long. Not sure if I want to cut away the dead pedal to install it only to find it doesn't fit. This is the one I bought. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00F545QG4/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o09_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Anyone make this mod for the 2nd gen sedan yet?

Alright hopefully this wasn't a TLDR post but I know some people enjoy it. Going to get in the car and drive home!
