  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Well, this is a new one. Two days ago, when I got in my '16 Ultimate (less than one year old) to make a 90 minute drive home, I plugged in my iPhone to the USB cord to play music, as I always do. However, upon turning on the audio system, no sound would play, even though the screen showed the song progressing in time. Even more strange, the car would play music from the radio, as well as via Bluetooth streaming. Now, this has happened to me a few times before, but has always been remedied by a quick on/off cycle of the car, making sure the infotainment system completely restarts. Not so this time. I restarted the system at least five times before giving up on it and resorting to playing Bluetooth, draining my phone's battery. I drove home, hoping the problem would remedy itself by the next day.

Wrong! Not only could I still not play music via USB, but my backup camera would no longer display an image! Even more strange, if I shifted into reverse while the Genesis logo was still on the screen (so the system was still booting up), the camera would work. If I waited until the legal warning to pop up after the Genesis logo faded, the camera would still just be black upon shifting into reverse. I've done a hard reset of the system several times at this point, to no avail.

Has anyone else had similar problems? If so, any luck on a fix? I'm scheduling an appointment at the dealer tomorrow, so hopefully will have good news later in the week.

There is a small hole near the CD player (I think, check the manual) where you can use a straightened paper clip to reset the whole AV system. That may get everything working again, but maybe you want the dealer to see it first so if it recurs in the future you can ask them to replace the unit.

+1. Often a reset does the trick, but.... head to the dealer if it does not solve the issue.

That's what I meant when I said I've done a hard reset of the system; thanks for trying to help though! I have an appointment scheduled for Wednesday morning, so hopefully a solution will be found.

Sounds like a hardware failure, specifically the input selector, probably heat related (?).

Have you done the latest iOS update from last week (to 10.3.3) pray tell? Could it be related to that?

Update:

Took the car to the dealer; they, unfortunately, were unable to solve the problem. They've ordered a replacement head unit; should be here in a week or two.
