  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I live in Silicon Valley and there are Teslas on every corner. I've noticed whenever I'm stopped at a traffic signal and one is near me (within 1-2 cars) or one passes perpendicular across the intersection, my parking sensors start going crazy. It's especially prevalent when Model 3s are near by. I joke that it's not a parking sensor, it's a Tesla detector.

I just took my car to the dealer for the final pre-warranty service (60k miles - used car) and asked them about this. They haven't heard anything related to it. Was wondering if anyone on these forums has had similar experiences.

I have been saying this for quite while. Happens every time with Teslas, directly in front, diagonally in front, along side. I think there are more Teslas in California so it may not be as apparent in other places. I do think it happens to a lesser extent when encountering other brands.

I've had the same thing happen with Ford vehicles when stopped in front of me with both my current Genesis and my 12 R-Spec.

I have the problem around Ford and BMWs

Sounds like more of a widespread hardware conflict that probably won't be resolved by the dealer. Glad to know I'm not alone!

My font sensor beeps sometimes when I stop behind the car at the red light and was kind of puzzled about this. Now I will be taking note what car is in front of me.

I've seen this too in my car... always thought it was an ant crawling across the sensor for a moment, or a drop of water, etc. Interesting and kinda funny but entirely plausible that the sensors are resonating with one another.

So this morning I was surrounded by BMWs, 2 - X3s a 750, and a 4 series (couldn't see the model from where I was) and every park sensor went haywire,. front and rear, all sides. And apparently at least the 750 and the 4 series had similar issues because I could see the drivers peering over their steering wheels and looking out their side windows trying to figure out who was so close as to trigger them.

You have to change your route to work through a "lesser" neighborhood.

im going to try this , im going to find me a tesla to follow. lol

Well, I was driving home from work this afternoon. I caught red light at two intersections. Both times I stopped behind the same BMW M5. My front bumper was about 4 feet from M5's rear bumper. Both times my front parking sensors went crazy.

Funny thing is since I started this thread, it's no longer happening to me. It's probably because whenever I see a Tesla at a stoplight, I try to get behind it with my phone ready to capture a video. Apparently my car doesn't want evidence.

Finally caught it on video. Unfortunately neither Elon Musk nor Tesla have replied. Lol
Tesla probably has no control over it, nor would Genesis. Items like that are made by third party suppliers. I don't know if they offer different frequencies or if it is even possible. They usually have to comply with a range approved by the FCC too.

The machines are taking over.

Parking sensors have a relatively short range (<3 meters) but the newer rear-cross-traffic-alert systems go out to ~30 meters. So I'd put my money on the newer higher power RCTA modules interfering with the older lower-tech parking sensors.

At least it's easy enough to push the button on your dash if you don't like the false alarms in traffic.

But then you have to remember to push that button again to turn alert back on.

Mine does it at a particular intersection when I leave work. If I'm first at the light, probably 19 out of 20 times the front sensors trigger. Not too many Teslas around here, but I have occasionally noticed the front tripping when I'm well back from the car in front. I attribute it to ghosts. ;)
