If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. I was watching this video about the 2010 Genesis and I noticed a couple of features they removed before it hit the production line that the guy was talking about...or at least they are not on mine that I'm aware of. Is this stuff available in the 4.6L but not the 3.8L?.... It definitely doesn't have the Electrochromatic Outside Mirrors and they omitted the rear seat heating option (which funny enough was included in the 2011 Sonata). He also mentions the Hard Drive based Navigation System "which allows for storage of your Music"...Does it?? I also see that he has his key fob inserted into the front dash fob holder. I thought the only reason you put it into there was if the vehicle was refusing to start or does it serve an additional purpose?

This mix up of features between the two vehicles makes me wonder what is going on in the minds of the Hyundai design team. You take features that should be in your more expensive models and put them in the lower priced cars, what gives with that? Also note that the Sonata has Daytime Running Lights, which are still not available even on the 2011 Genesis.

My service adviser did state that the vehicle is pre-wired for the DRL's so far as he is aware, but not hooked up in U.S. version of the Genesis....or in any market that doesn't require it to be. He said that he knows the vehicle has it available because all Genesis's that are sold on the Canadian market require them by law.

Here is the post to the test drive of the 2010 Genesis (pre-production I would have to guess) YouTube Video:

That test drive was the V8 with Tech Package. Are you saying that the Tech Package does not have self-dimming side mirrors? (I don't really know).

The 2011 Sonata is a newer design than the Genesis (which was first delivered in mid-2008), so when the Genesis is refreshed in 2012 model then maybe it will get rear heated seats (personally I couldn't care less).

Don't know about hard drive for music with Tech Package (which I don't have), but you can store music on a USB drive, iPod, etc.

Keyfob holder is for when battery is discharged. But that was obviously a dealer demo (not pre-production), so maybe they do that so salesperson or customer doesn't accidentally walk-off with keys in their pocket.

Canada version has daytime running lights, but those on this forum who have investigated getting them installed on US versions say there are too many missing electrical parts to easily retrofit. I don't think they would want to offer DRL in the US unless driver can turn them off, because they are a big negative for some potential buyers.

I think the person doing the test drive just made a few mistakes about a few of the features. Nothing to get excited about.

To the knowledge I've learned about our Genny the hard drive is for the GPS storage of info. Can't put anything in it as far as music etc... To most that post here that is a big waste of "space" that could be used to buffer the satellite music, store your own tunes, download mp3 files etc.

...that's cool..personally I'm very happy with my Genny, just wasn't sure if they were features omitted from the car before 2010 production or not...I also could care less about the rear seats being heated, but would like DRL's as they are a nice reduction to your insurance premium..at least with Geico they are. I would also like access to the Hard Drive for music storage and had suggested to the consumer affairs department of Hyundai about the XM/Sat Radio being able to use the HD space as a buffer when it loses live connection with they system.

You can get a brand new 160GB iPod Classic for less than $225 that provides much better user controls integrated with the Genesis audio system than a simple hard disk or USB memory can provide.

Like the Godfather, the XM/Sat radio already has lots of buffers. Hyundai cannot change how the XM software works with regard to storage used for buffers.

The new Buick LaCrosse pauses live radio. Has a user accessible hard drive. Certain units available for XM or Sirius will pause the programing. Would be nice in our dash.

Not sure if you are talking about the dash of your current car, or future Genesis models? Surely you can't expect to change your current car.

There might be some changes made to the the audio system in the 2012 Genesis, which will be a model refresh. Manufacturers don't like to make a lot of changes every single year, especially with outsourced components like the Lexicon audio system.

Personally, I don't care about XM radio because the sound quality is so poor compared to 256 kbps iPod. I don't get any interruptions with my iPod. Since one can plug in a USB hard drive (or flash memory) into the current model Genesis (if you don't want an iPod), I am not sure what the big deal is?

Guess it was just "bad choice of words" when I said "...in our dash...". Should have said that I hope MamaHyundai offers a hard drive that can be useful to us, the owners. 40gig in the system is useless if all it's gonna do is save phone numbers and locations you've been via the GPS. 40gig, even after the system uses what it needs, will hold a ton of down-loaded mp3 files YOU install! Also...I can tell you that pausing live radio (be it Sat or am/fm) is great when the phone rings, then you pick up where you left off when you end the call. Hey...that could be a traffic report you could have used, huh?!

I didn't mean to dwell on the word "dash" but I didn't know if you expected a retrofit so that a hard drive for music can be added to your current car, or you are just hoping that the next version of the Genesis has that feature.

I don't have a XM radio subscription, but they have traffic reports every few minutes, so that would be a better solution if traffic reports were important to me. If I just finished a 15 minute phone call, I don't want to hear a 15 minute old obsolete traffic report replaying from cache. Also, if I do listen to the old traffic report broadcast on cache memory, then I may miss a live traffic report that was broadcast while listening to the stuff cached on disk.

How sure are you about the 2012 refresh? You mean like little changes or a whole new look in the model? I am sure you mean some changes in the interior and exterior and not a whole new model look. Because most cars have a 6-8 year cycle. How early do you think it would come? 2011 Summer? I could probably wait till then so I can get a 2009 for very cheap hopefully. Especially if they change some things that should drop the price of the 2009s even more. Hopefully I can get a 2009 with tech pkg for $20000.

Do you think you could even find a new 2009 a year from now? I wouldn't bet the rent on that

2012 model refresh is not a certainty, and what will be changed is not certain either. if there are changes, I don't think that the changes will be major. Hyundai seems to have shortened the change cycle on all their cars compared to other manufacturers, but the Genesis does not need a major overhaul.

The Kia Sportage is finally getting a makeover. But for the worse I think.... The new Sorrento looks nice though.

A few months ago, I drove a 2010 Kia Sorento rental car on a business trip. Seemed OK to me, but before that I had not driven an SUV in 12 years, so I don't know much about the competitive models.

Although both Hyundai and Kia are part of the Hyundai Kia Automotive Group, they are run as separate companies, especially in the are of marketing and design. They do share some engineering and parts to achieve economy of scale. Hyundai now owns 36% of Kia (down from 51% when they first purchased Kia).
