If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hey everyone, just test drove two CPO Genesis, one being a 2015 and other a 2016, and both were vibrating at speeds higher than 30MPH. The dealer said it may be due to both sitting on the lot for 30+ days in cold and snowy conditions but I'm not too sure if that is believable. Both had wheel alignment done recently at the dealership. Additionally, one of the Genesis' head unit was stuck on the Genesis Logo and then showed a black screen and kept restarting but unable to use it other than the backup camera. The dealer said they will look at that but I have re-scheduled the test drive again in couple days when the dealer fixes those issues. Did anyone have these issues recently?

Vibration over 30 means either poorly balanced wheels or bad tires. Flat spots would be evident all the time.

As for the bootlooping radio, it could have a defective SD card or slot, or it has a damaged solid state drive.

Both had Michelin tires will 9/32 tread left and balanced. Even though the CPO 15' is outside the 3yrs/36k warranty they technically should be able to replace the head unit right? If I did get the CPO wrap would that cover against these kind of defects?

Warranty is supposed to be 5yr/60k full coverage?

Hyundai covers electronics for only the 3y/36k warranty period. Everything else until 5y/60k and then only the power-train after that until 10y/100k miles. However, those coverages are only for the original owners.

Second hand owners only get a 5y/60k power-train only warranty that can be upgraded to 10y/100k powertrain warranty under the certified program.

I see. Hyundai customer service told me it was a bumper to bumper warranty to 5y/60k for 2nd hand owners (I called them when I purchased mine because it was confusing), I'm guessing from that document that statement was incorrect.

If they are selling the 15 with the bootloop as CPO - they need to fix the head unit before sale, not you being responsible to make a warranty claim.
On the 15 - electronics is 3/36
on the 16 - electronics is 5/60

I would suggest turning off radio and climate control and open the center arm rest and listen for any flutter sounds when taking a test drive. My car had the flutter noise and vibration between 26-33 mph which was loudest in the center armrest and they had to replace the balance shaft. If that's all good it's probably the tires and many have had issues with the OEM tires. I have been having vibration issues with mine for the past 10k. When I rotated them in the summer it became worse so I just rotated them back and I'm just going to replace and get my new tires road force balanced and aligned in the summer. I would ask them to replace the tires or take money off due to the fact that you might need to replace them soon if they don't correct themselves. As for the one with the bad head unit I would pass on that one unless they replace it and extend the warranty on the head unit. That is an expensive repair if it fails again without a warranty. I would also ask for them to swap out the wheels/tires with a new one on the lot to take a test drive to confirm that it is in fact the ties themselves and not the power train.

The problem is both cars had the vibration issue. But I agree about the head unit part. I'll see if they can extend the warranty on that one.

Vibration in the steering wheel or more in the seat? Tells you front or rear tire issue. Likely a bent or out of balance wheel. Easily could be tire flat spots too, had them on my original Genny tires that were under Warranty and again with crappy YokohamaYK740's from Discount tire. Never had flat spot issues with Michelin's which I just switched to. Undetermined vibrations could also be in the driveline but look to simpler issues first. I wouldn't buy either vehicle unless the vibration issue was resolved.

If the cars are sitting in cold temps for days (sometimes a day) like you said, the tires can flat spot, but should go away after 10-15 miles of driving, ask them for a longer drive to confirm that it is the tires flat spotting due to cold temps, after the tires heat up the flat spots should go away. This is known on tires with nylon belts used in H and higher rated tires (the 3.8 has V rated which is higher than H rated). I have had this issue with various cars.

Typically unbalanced tires give the highest indication of imbalance between 50-60mph

I also get a fluttering/vibration at highway speeds when the dealership is lazy and decides not to put all the clips back for the underside cover during an oil change, from what I have read, many dealers do not put all the clips back in.

I just had the test drive done again and there's no wobbling. Maybe due the snow or the dealer drove the car couple miles to get rid of the flat spotting. Just can't work on the numbers since they said CPO Wrap 10years/100k would be $2500+ which is absurdly high!

high. I did not go for it

Sorry, can't help on the CPO cost.

Regarding the vibration, it could have also been snow buildup inside the rim, it happens, I have seen it and heard about it. Until it melts, it is unbalanced.
