  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

1st, let me say that I LOVE my Genesis. Truly, it's a phenomenal car.

2nd, if your in the market for a used luxury car and you've stopped in to arm yourself with information....BUY. A. WARRANTY. I've had the car about 2.5 months and have had some annoying issues. Sometimes I'll roll down either of the front windows and it will not go back up. It's been an intermittent issue, but annoying, especially when it happens at a drive through....in the rain. Next issue is also intermittent. At times I'll reverse and the side mirrors tilt down, as they should, but when I return to drive 1 of them will stay tilted downward. Both of these issues have been rectified by restarting the car. Next up is the touch screen. At times the back button mysteriously activates and stays activated, perpetually reversing any CD, or Bluetooth song currently playing. Its as if a ghost is pressing the screen, the back arrow lights up as if being pressed in a machine gun fashion. I finally took it in to my local Hyundai dealership yesterday. They are pretty great to work with so far. I picked up the car last night as they must order the various CPU's and parts. But, that's not all. Today while leaving work it sounded as if there was a playing card being shoved into a bicycle wheel when the HVAC turned on. Any speed, constant noise, pretty loud. I drove straight to the dealership. They say its the blower and they will be tacking it on to the tab from yesterday. 1 deductible. I haven't seen the final tally, but they tell me it ain't cheap.

THANK GOD I bought the warranty!!!!

Sorry to hear your having some issues with your Genesis. But it sounds like your working with a good dealer. I agree with you they are nice cars. I bought a 2013 3.8 CPO in April and with all the high dollar electronics and gadgets on these cars I went on and got the extra coverage also.

Yes, it's pretty obvious. You can't expect a car that's almost 8 model years old to be trouble-free. These days, anybody keeping a car beyond the basic manufacturer's warranty would be foolish not to get an extended warranty that meets their projected needs.

There is almost always a very good reason someone gets rid of a slightly used luxo ride. You seem to have found most of them.

My 2012 celebrated it's 5th birthday at 59,910 miles... and yes I bought the HPP Platinum warranty. Not cheap, but extended warranties are defined as insurance in FL by law, so it's pro-rate-refundable should I ever want to cancel.

In 2024, when my car is 10 years old, it'll have a little less than 50,000 miles on it. Everything will still be covered 100% until August of that year, (with zero deductible.....Unless my dealer goes out of business...then it will be $100 deductible)

Well done! My '12 is covered till Dec. 30, 2024, or 120,000 miles. The extended warranty, which I bought when the car was 3 years old, cost me $1,295. No brainer! I won't be driving it then, but my son might be. I'll transfer the warranty to him for $50. Maybe in a year, or two, if he's a good boy.

I bought my 2011 as a CPO 3 years ago with about 21K miles. Although I've had 6 previous Hyundai's with no problems (I usually trade them at around 100K), I was talked into the extended warranty on this one when they told me how much it was to replace the NAV screen on the tech package.

Yes, it's a real no-brainer.

Well, to update. I may have spoken too soon on the dealer being good to work with. I'm being patient, but that's about to wear off. I waited a week to hear back from the dealer. I called them and got vm. I left a message, this was about 10 am this past Monday. No call back. I decide to go in Tuesday morning and they tell me they have been slammed and haven't had an opportunity to contact the warranty company. They apologized profusely and assured me that contact would be made the following day, Wednesday, and they would contact me with a time to drop off the car. Today is Thursday, I have yet to hear from them and I'm pretty annoyed. The issues are intermittent, the car is drivable....but that's not the issue. With my previous Lexus this would never have happened. I would have been taken care of promptly. I'm going in again tomorrow and the patience will have vanished.

Experience varies from dealer to dealer as they have nothing to do with Hyundai, the car manufacturer.

Anyway, here's some good news: I too had the intermittent "windows won't go up" issue, but I narrowed it down. I figured out they actually go back up fine if you use the rear or passenger buttons, just not the driver's side ones (they only go down, or randomly start working again). The control module had to be replaced ad they mentioned something about an $800 CDN value but here's the part for as low as $30 USD. I've taken apart my doors multiple times and it would take a few minutes to get it replaced, it's pretty much plug and play so even if you were out of warranty it would be an easy fix.

The touch screen could be more expensive because I don't think there's an easy way to fix displays, they pretty much would replace the entire thing and they cost a lot.

It all depends on the dealer. The one closest to me (10-15 minutes) treats you like minor nobility. Another one, (30 minutes away) treats you like a Prince. There is another one (20 minutes away) that is run by clowns.

Update. The warranty company sent an adjuster this past Tuesday. The total cost of the repairs is about $3800, $2k of which is just the screen/head unit. He was able to duplicate the window issue, so I can check that off. He was NOT able to duplicate the stereo issue nor the side mirror/reverse problem. Fortunately, or so I thought, I was able to take a video of the stereo issue in progress and had sent it to the dealership previously. But, this adjuster claims that since he could not recreate the problem an appeal would have to be filed. The dealership filed the appeal, attached the video to it and I'm waiting.......

Hey, this may sound dumb but for the mirror issue, did you try resetting the memory setting? Meaning, while in Park, adjust the mirror, set memory 1 or 2, whichever you use, then test it again?

Mine did that a few times, but I could always control/fix the mirror so I knew the connections and controls were fine. It was simply going back to its memory setting when I'd switch from R to D, or when I'd press 2 in my case while the car was parked. Since the memory for 2 was "corrupt", it would lower the mirror. I adjusted it, saved it as 2 again, and it's been fine ever since.

I'll try that.

That does seem to work. It's still something I want them to fix though. It's a PITA and I can see bad things happening if my woman drives the car and has this happen. I was able to capture it on video today. 3 times in a row. That should be enough for the warranty company.
