I ran across this forum in a search, and wanted to join.
I am the proud owner of a 2015 Genesis Sedan. V6 version.
Where do I start to express my love of this vehicle. I haven't had one that I have felt passionate about until this car.
I have previously owned cadillacs, lexus and a truck here and there. I decided 2015 was my year for a new sedan. I might have just purchased another cadillac without much thought to it, but when I went to test drive the new ATS and CTS, despite their amazing strides in quality and performance, there was a problem. I am 6ft tall and could barely hold my head upright in the driver's seat without touching the headliner in the seat's lowest position, and the backseat was even worse. There was an arched rise in the back where a taller person's head can fit, but mine didn't, and I had to tilt my head sideways to sit in the back. This design flaw on otherwise beauitful vehicles eliminated both cars, and the XTS just seemed too big. So I had to begin researching other models. I read and read online and visited dealers. When I got to a dealer that sold several brands, I saw a car that was so handsome, but had no idea what it was. It hadn't made my search. It was the Genesis. The lines of the vehicle are so powerful, yet understated and not ostentatious. It is the perfect man's sedan visually, like a 5 series in a sense. It is modern design in keeping with other cars, but you notice it. I just smile when I see the powerful, but subtle rise of the hood from some angles. It just doesn't have a bad angle.
I test drove one and was hooked, instantly. Even the smell took me back to when my parents brought home a new car. I tested both the V6 and V8 versions. The doors are amazinly solid. One of the first things I noticed was how well crafted and thought out the interior was. Comfortable seats, nice to the touch materials and well layed out. A touch screen is the center piece, but it still has knobs and steering wheel controls for quick and easy use while driving. The software for the touch screen is very intuitive. Another simple thing I loved was that even though it has lighter interior, the carpets are black, which not only is a striking and high end looking combination, but also practical for keeping the appearance clean over time.
On my test drive, I noticed that both models are nicely powered, passing is not a worry. The car is exceptionally quiet and it feels so solid and heavy on the road. It does not float, but it is not harsh. It is smooth perfection. They really got the steering feeling just right for what I like, controlled, but effortless.
After some hesitation about purchasing a "Hyundai" which was completely crazy looking back, I did it, and came home with the most beautiful deep red V6 Genesis. This begun a love affair with a car like I have never know. I decided on the V6 version because of fuel economy. It has plenty of power, but the car consistently gets between 29 and 33 on the highway. It depends on terrain, but I am so pleased with the numbers. It amazes me a 4000 pound vehicle (stand corrected by Mark)can get this without being some type of hybrid. The bluetooth is very good and all the tech features work so well and add value versus being gimmicks. Even the puddle logo at night from the rear view mirrors makes me smile as well.
I have gone as far as to get all these special cleaning supplies, so I can get up on Saturday morning and hand wash it. I haven't done that in years, but I get to spend time appreciating the design and keeping it clean. It makes me so happy.
When I open my garage door, the first thing I see is the grill and it is so awesome. I also find myself months in, still opening the garage door just to check on her and admire the red.
One hack I did, which I recommend to anyone, is a change out of the rear Hyundai badge. This Genesis sedan is truly another kind of car even though it is not a separate brand yet. It would be hard to imagine Toyota putting their badge on the rear of a premium Lexus. I discovered online that in Korea, Hyundai puts the winged badge on the back instead. Versions shipped to the US get the hyundai badge. Why I am not sure. Surely they would know Americans would prefer the winged badge. I found a dealer close to where I live that switches them out on all the ones they sell, so I took it there and had it done. They told me is eases premium buyer's minds who are considering the car. I agree, it did mine, and it looks cool. You can actually make a DIY project out of it too. Amazon has the badges for sale, and there are videos on YouTube about how to do it.
Hyundai, I love this car more than any I have ever owned. Thank you!
