  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Thanks for the feed back

I would like to thank everyone that replyed to my posts. You helped me to make up my mind between the Maxima and the Genesis. If I can get my price,1,000 under invoice, and my color, grey with saddle or red with saddle,I will pull the trigger. I hope I don't regret it. It looks good for the price now, thanks to economy but no dealers in my state,NJ, have the colors right now. I can wait a few more weeks to see if one comes in. I did not mean to rain on anyone parade with my negitive comments but I am not a rich man and this is a big investment for me. Look forward to chating after I buy the car,I know i will have questions.

trust me, you won't regret it.

Did you go to Lester Glenn in Toms River? Ask for John Perillo, tell him Mark Grigoletto asked you to stop in. I bought my car there a month or so ago.
Great place to purchase

As a consumer, he's simply looking for the best deal he can get - just like ALL consumers. I can see how as a salesperson you would not encourage this...

John. Don't worry. You won't regret it.

Good luck with the purchase John! look forward to reading what you have to write after you pick the car up!!!

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
Enjoy Genesis negotiations John...

But if you are trying to get a new (non-demo) car for $1,000.00 Under Dealer Invoice- not going to happen- since if you just looked at MSRP of $42K- V8 with Tech- Holdback is 2%= $840.00

I know (Mgrig) Mark G is since I hooked him up with my friends at Lester Glenn Auto Group.

I got the V6 with Tech Package for $100 under invoice a couple of months back, and felt like I got a good deal considering. $1000 under invoice may be pushing it, but hey.....go for it.

Good luck.

VaiFan,

Did you buy a new one or a demo?

I would imagine it was a DEMO...

Since dealier invoice on the car is $32,893.00

I agree with VaiFan - you won't regret it. I've owned and LOVED mine for 3 months!

Maybe one of the Hyundai dealers can back me up, but demos cost dealers the same amount as any other car on the lot, they just might be more flexible in the pricing. The dealers I know spread the miles around the lot, so they don't have demos to speak of. I guess you could call the service loaners demos, but the dealers that have those normally use their "bottom rung" models.
One thing I don't understand is how/why a dealer would sell a car below cost. What is the incentive to sell any vehicle for anything less than the dealer has in it (invoice - holdback)? The only thing I can think of is the "below cost" pricing isn't out-the-door pricing and the dealer is really making money on the financing, extended warranties and documentation fees. Dealers, what say you?

in my case, the dealer was running an ad in the local paper for 4k off, today only.
I went down there thinking it was a crap color combination or something, and was suprised to see it was black pearl with beige leather.
I jumped on it.
I asked why they did it and it was at the low point of the "gas crunch" and it was the week before our wonderful congress voted for the bailout.
that combination was keeping people from buying cars for about two weeks.
I took advantage of the lack of dealer traffic and jumped on this one time offer.
the car was not a demo.
it had just under 11 miles on it.

below cost pricing is just that- taxes and documentary fee and those other junk fees- the ones that the dealers in an area charge- $399, $599, etc- the ones they don't budge on- are just that- costs added after the sales price.

granted they lose money on a few cars- but if that dealer is one that charged- that I have to say are dumb purchasers- you know- you heard the dealer's asking $1K to $3K or more over- if they sold one car at $3K over MSRP- they could lose $1K or more on a deal- and they still either break even or more than likely are ahead of the game.

personally I can understand paying MSRP but $3K plus on a Hyundai Genesis- gimme a break- and don't say hey I had to get out of a lease- rent a cheap a** enterprise car for a month or so- and if you're deal is over MSRP- have the dealer let you use one of their cars free (excluding gas) for a month or so.

Whenever I get a sales quote, I always ask for the fully delivered price, also known as the "out the door" price. That way all the junk fees are already figured in for fair comparisons, and you won't have any suprises.
Even though you might have financing arranged at a good interest rate, have the dealer give a quote on their best financing rates. Dealers make money on financing, so ask the dealer what discount can be had if you finance with them.
Car dealerships are in the business of making a profit, and I just can't imagine them selling a vehicle below their "actual cost" (especially on a popular car like the Genesis). The argument that if they lose money on one deal, they can make it up on the next, doesn't hold water. Why not make money on that one also? What is the incentive to sell even one at a loss? If you take the justification to a Sales Manager that they can charge the next buyer more, you'd get laughed out of the dealership!

Sorry about the rant, but I believe car dealers deserve a fair profit. What is "fair" is open to interpetation though!

So I guess you never heard of stores- selling loss leaders- to draw in customers.

Yes, I've heard of loss leaders, but loss leaders are normally on one advertised special to draw customer traffic. Loss leaders are just a form of advertising and the sale of that vehicle doesn't necessarily mean the out-the-door price of that vehicle is below actual dealer cost. What I'm trying to understand is why a dealer would allow a "negotiation" to get below dealer cost, not advertised price.
