  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I woke up this morning and started my car (getting ready for work) and my check engine light came on. I was hoping by the time I get off work that it will turn off, but to my dismay it didn't. So tomorrow I will be bringing it in to the dealership to find out the problem. I'll keep you guys and gals posted btw I have almost 3000 miles on my car and had it since April 4, 2009.

I'm not ruling that out, but I did tighten it when I got off work though. ;)

Have gotten gas lately? Sometimes a loose gas cap causes the engine light to come on. It's happen to me 3 times over the past 3 years.

Did you get gas just before the light came on? The CEL is usually related to emissions controls, most often its the gas cap unless a system is not working properly.

As long as the light isn't blinking it's safe to continue driving the car... as told to me by a Hyundai service writer.

Many of the codes are "soft" errors: if the problem is repaired, the computer will cancel the light. However, it takes a few "cycles" to determine if the problem really is repaired. A cycle is basically starting the engine, driving a bit, shutting off the car again. Some errors need 2 cycles to clear, some require a few more. Others require the scan tool (code reader) to clear the error. Loose gas caps typically need 2 or 3 cycles to clear.

Great news it was my gas cap. I never thought that would be the problem, because I filled up 2 weeks ago. The check engine light remained solid and didn't flash at all. I also checked out the 2010 4.8 with Tech Package while I was there also. Me want one now, only thing I have to do is convince the Misses that we really need it. Any good pointers will be greatly appreciated.:D

Rationale in the "urge " to change out model years? Is it the additional bells and whistles? Or did you drive it and discover, dare I say, improvements? :)

The suspension is a whole lot stiffer over bumps (meaning that it doesn't wobble around as much), but not that much of a difference from the 2009 in my opinion. I do like the bells and whistles, but decided to stay with my current "Genny".

I went to pick up my permanent plates and drove a 2010 and thats about what i came away with - stiffer but pretty much the same, maybe a slimmer sway bar so it doesn't shimmy quite as much, but that was pretty minor.

Great insight Soldier76 and Sayantsi. I was curious about the "new and improved" 2010 sedan. I haven't had a chance to drive one, and have been trying not to look at the other section of this forum where the major perceived flaw has been hammered on a regular basis to see what the nay sayers are saying about the 2010. I think I am just fine, for now with my '09, flawed or not! :p
