  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

The fricking auto wipers.

Nothing I did. They even replaced the windshield when they broke it putting on wipers.
I will have them check it out. I recall the housing around the inside of the rearview mirror was loose when I got it. Maybe it was damaged from the beginning?

The sensors are very sensitive, if it isn’t mounted correctly then it will not work correctly and after a windshield replacement it has to be recalibrated to the new windshield.

Didn't notice a difference before or after, but maybe it was pooched from the start. Man, they SUCK!

to each their own, I think they work perfectly well, I've never experienced an issue with them and they work the same as the auto sensing wipers I have had on multiple other cars..

I’ve had auto sensing in 2 previous Mercedes that were miles better. I will investigate if they are faulty. This isn’t a too each their own. They are erratic. I will be happy as heck if it can be rectified!

maybe a video would be helpful as to see what you are dealing with.

I say to each their own because a lot of people here have complained about them and from what I gather it is because they don't like how inconsistent they are compared to the old style "intermittent" system that swipes at given time increments.

auto-sense wipers don't use a set time point to swipe, and a lot of people (IMO) don't understand this, and the setting on our car doesn't vary the time, it varies the sensitivity to the light reflection caused by the water, The speed of the swipe is not dependent on the auto setting (high/low) it is dependent on how much water it detects, the more water it detects the faster it swipes. meaning in high mode it turns on faster (less water needed to activate), and in low mode it turns on slower (more water needed to activate).

MBZ's system varies the speed of the wiper, not the sensitivity, I've also owned several MBZ's there is a difference in how the systems operate.

I get it. I just think it overrides what I set it to way to randomly. It goes crazy wiping when the windshield goes dry, won't go when it is soaked. I just chalked it up to a crappy system. I would much prefer the intermittent rotary setting override the sensors, why even have it? There is another position on the stalk for auto sensing, so why have the one that has a dial that my system ignores. I have RTFM many times trying to see if I am oding something wrong.

Hopefully my next dealer visit will solve this. It is so crappy that it actually makes me consider not getting another Genesis, or even seeing if I can turn off the sensor so it just follows the timer, but I have no idea if it would work properly.

Anyway, hopefully the dealer can sort it out and not give me the "It is working fine" line. Cuz if it is, it sucks.

as I said, the "rotary" setting you are talking about does not override the sensor, it adjusts the sensor sensitivity. It is not an intermittent setting. it is a sensitivity setting.

if you want to override the auto, you put it into low or high mode, that disables the auto and just runs a consistent slow or fast swipe. These cars do not have a timed intermittent setting as you are describing.

I will acknowledge that the one "issue" i have, is that if I leave it in auto when I turn the car off, when I turn the car back on if it raining, it will not immediately engage the wipers even if it is pouring, I have to manually tip the lever up to mist then back to auto to get the first swipe out of the way. It will engage them within a minute or two of moving, but in some cases there is too much water to see out the window, so that doesn't help.

I suspect this is because at startup the sensor does a quick calibration and the water interfers with that process.
