  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

The honeymoon is over... (steering issue)

That the part is on backorder most likely indicates that you are not alone in this problem. Sit tight, enjoy the loaner, then, when you get your Genesis back, enjoy it too.

Yeah... but I miss my car. I'm not bashing Hyundai OR the car. Electronics fail. Not all parts are 100% reliable. It happens.

It just sucks that it is happening TO ME.

;)

Don't carry egocentrism too far. Try spending time with family, friends, etc. There's a big, wide, world out their. Restore a flower bed. Visit a museum.
Phone a sick friend.

"There's a big, wide, world out there." Just sayin'...

ANYWAY, HMA called me this morning and told me they located a replacement part, and as a matter of fact, it is already at the dealership! Then the guy said the fluid for the pump was shipped this morning, and will get to the dealership this afternoon - according to HMA guy, I should have a car tomorrow afternoon.

I called the dealership to confirm all this - they confirmed the part was in. However, they said they wouldn't get the fluid until tomorrow, and I likely won't have a car until "Saturday/Monday".

Oh well. Still better than the 20th, I guess.

As for the egocentrism comment... this is a Hyundai Genesis forum; I'm talking about my Hyundai Genesis ownership experience. Doesn't mean my entire life revolves around my car. If I wanted to talk about planting flower beds, or kissing babies, or petting defenseless little baby seals, I'd do it at those respective forums.

Umm... I have nothing against them. They're actually pretty comfortable:

Sorry I edited your post. Was trying to edit mine. Whoops.

I got my car back!

Thanks Danbury Hyundai... they went out of their way to find me the fluid and the part I needed, and did the work at least a week ahead of their original estimate.

I'm just so psyched to have my car back. It was like meeting an old friend at the airport.

Oh happy day.

(Problem seems fixed, btw)

 lol...poor seals :) ...glad to hear that the problem is fixed and it's truly stinks how much the service experience can vary so much from one dealership to another. Mine in Winter Park, FL (Holler Hyundai) has been a great service department, I guess it's true....Great service starts with the management of the car dealer and filters down through the rest of the team.

I suppose it would also help for HMA to keep the dealers informed of common issues with their cars, and of course... to have more parts in stock so as to avoid long periods of waiting around for parts to arrive!

Car's been great for the week I've had it back. Steering feels different than it used to; it's a bit stiffer, I think. I actually like it better this way. It's still responsive on the road, and for some reason, I don't feel as much vibration from irregular pavement as I used to.

Or maybe I just think I don't.

I just had a strange situation this morning with my power steering. In the garage where I park a work, I was stopped behind someone waiting for them to park. They were taking a while (I'm impatient) so drove around them hitting the accelerator, as I did that I noticed that I had no power steering. I had to quickly hit the brake as to not hit another car, then I felt it kick back in (albeit slowly). I had to round another corner to get to my spot and felt it fade out and back in again.

I’m due for an oil change next week and a changeover to winter tires so I’ll see what the issue is then. I’ll have to monitor the situation till I get it in the shop. I’ve got 82,000 miles on it so maybe I’m just due for a service.

I'd say get it checked out, but you're DEFINITELY going to get the usual, "Sorry, we can't replicate the problem".

However, mine started out small, like what you mentioned. Then it failed, eventually. Take it easy for the next week or two... 'cause it might happen again.

My car has been FANTASTIC ever since though. Got 1,000 miles until my 7,500 service. No other issues to report.

Oil change?
LOL

No... I plan on having them do the following:

Replace:

1) Replace engine oil and filter

Inspect:

1) Fuel lines, hoses and connections
2) Vacuum hose
3) Vapor hose and fuel filler cap
4) Air cleaner filter (might do that myself - easy enough)
5) Fuel tank air filter
6) Power steering fluid (I check it myself every month, especially after THIS TOPIC)
7) Inspect & rotate tires

I plan on having this stuff added to a list so it is documented as the "7,500 mile service" without the eye-gouging service package price; reason I'm doing this is because I don't want to leave Hyundai any room to screw me on the "Guaranteed Trade-In Value" amount, IF I decide to upgrade to the Gen Two.

Question though... does anyone recommend fuel additives? I figure most gas stations up here use some kind of additive, but I'm just not sure. It's recommended in the OM, I think.

I definitely want it checked out before my warranty is up which is quite soon.
Didn't realize that. Go back through my thread and MENTION SPECIFICALLY for them to check the things that I stated broke down. Make sure they get their hands dirty - steering is a serious safety issue, and you shouldn't have to wonder if it's gonna fail on you. Good luck - keep us posted.

I know my Optima which is GDI and my dads Azera 3.3L GDI should run Top Tier fuel according to the OM, which my wife and dad do. If Top Tier fuel isn't ran, the manual says to use a fuel system cleaner at every oil change to clear out all the extra carbon buildup. Assuming the same for the 3.8L and 5.0L Genesis.

I've had something similar pulling into the garage where at idle with lights, radio, brake lights, and AC on, I turn the steering hard and the electric load on the car from the electric PS motor sags the voltage and all the electrical in the entire car drops out for a moment. PS cuts out, radio drops, lights dim, etc.

This is a design issue (total load exceeds alternator capability), or a problem with a weak alternator/voltage regulator.
