  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hello everyone, these past few days I have been browsing forum posts and noticed that many people have mentioned issues with differentials and transfer case. I am a potential buyer of a GV70 in Vancouver, Canada. The sales representative informed me that a 2023 GV70 2.5T Prestige will arrive in 4-6 weeks and is currently "on a boat." I would like to know the possibility of encountering differential and transfer case issues with this vehicle. Alternatively, should I wait for the 2024 model of the GV70, which reportedly will have a price increase of around CAD 1500 but will have the exact same features as the 2023 model?

Your post is the first I've seen anyone ask if the differentials or transfer case are endemically flawed in the GV70. Of course any car can have issues, but I don't think this is a major one. We bought two GV70 Sport Prestige 4 months ago and they are both fantastic cars. We have a good friend who is now into year two with her GV70 and she has had zero issues. I love my GV70 more than I loved my Mercedes E450, to be honest.

Thanks for your replay, so seems like there are 1 out of 100 may got issues.

Neither you, nor me could possibly suggest 1 out of 100 have any issues. If it were that many, there would be loads of articles about this from the press and likely a recall notification, neither of which are happening.

Thanks for the reply, i was wondering the same thing and hearing people like you gives me more confidence going forward.
I originally put deposit on a 2023 gv70 Select but changed my mind and picking up gv70 2.5t Sport Prestige in a few days which was available without waiting.
Maybe really stupid that never tried GV70 to feel how everything is, decision made by peoples and pro's reviews and what i saw on youtube :)
Dealers are far away and whenever i went to see it they didn't have vehicle to see it or drive it.

Enjoy your new ride! I think you're going to be thrilled with the 2.5t Sport Prestige. We liked it so much, we bought two of them.

The issue with forums is they're typically posted to when someone has an issue and needs a place to vent. The vast majority of GV70 owners are out happily driving their wonderful car and aren't spending any time on a forum complaining, because they don't have anything to complain about.

Again, I hope you have a great experience with your new GV70 and you drive many miles in great health and smile on your face.

Thank you very much, just picked the car up today and drove back 150 miles from dealership.
Car absolutely pass my expectation in every way, i couldn't believe how nicely everything was designed and drives just wonderfully. 3D dashboard just amazing and very unique also. Lastly i averaged 26.4 mpg with some light traffic.
Very i mean very happy so far :)

It's BEAUTIFUL! Congratulations and I'm glad the inaugural drive home was fun. I'm sure you'll really love your new ride. Honestly the highlight of my day is when I get to drive mine. I had my car ceramic coated and once a week, I use a Ceramic spray from NexGen (really good stuff and you can get it on Amazon) and I've yet to need to even wash either of our GV70's. We live in Florida and get a lot of rain, but nothing sticks to the car with the protective coats we've got on them.

Again, CONGRATULATIONS and don't hesitate to let us know if you have any questions.

I had a car wash membership prior to this vehicle but with this i don't think i will use car wash, especially this dark color.
Back to old days, hand washing. I don't think i will ever do ceramic coating etc. i found those to be excessive and not necessary.
Maybe i'll do waxing once a year.
Enjoy your ride too
Thanks

I was lucky. Didn't have to pay for ceramic coating. Since we bought two GV70 Sport Prestige, the dealer offered them for free with our purchase. I wouldn't have paid for it to be done, but for no charge, we just sat and waited for both cars to be coated before we drove them home.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
Genesis just took our 2023 GV70 back. The transfer case, transmission, throttle body and 3 dead batteries in 8 months of ownership. Buy a Yugo.

That's unfortunate, but certainly can happen to any brand of automobile. I've had a Mercedes bought back for electrical issues which rendered the car undrivable. We bought two 2023 GV70 Sport Prestige and they've both been fantastic. Admittedly, we've only had them 6 months, but neither has had a single issue.

Again, sorry your experience wasn't great. But that doesn't mean it's a bad SUV or brand.

Yeah, I've had to replace the rear diff, the throttle body, water pump, steering rack and various other miscellaneous issues but I'm still sticking with this. I haven't had any issues now for a couple of months so I'm hoping this was just working out some bugs.

The diff on our 2023 was replaced in October (3 weeks in the shop) after taking delivery late July. The sound came back about a month ago and I am dreading taking it back again. I hope Genesis has this figured out. I love the car, but my patience is wearing thin.

We are on our second round with our LSD. The top trim has the electronic LSD in the back. Not sure about the other models, but when the dealer gets the parts again they will give us a call...maybe in 2024. Not causing any issues other than a warning on the dash. Ours is a first model year and sometimes first model year cars have problems. Nothing else negative to report. Everything else has been flawless.

On my 2023 2.5T Prestige I've had a slew of issues. It also takes over a month to get an appointment at the dealer.
1. Rear differential
2. Torque converter
3. Dark chrome window trim fading, replaced but scratched paint in the process and two of the replacements have creases, still waiting for replacements
4. Moisture in headlights
5. Multiple recalls
6. Randomly lost all user settings once
7. Infotainment randomly will start with all black screen

Overall Genesis isn't quite ready for primetime as a luxury brand.

Absolutely Do Not Wait Buy the car you want! if you are nervous about a certain issue failing then up the service intervals My friend this is a small matter you can not wait for Ideal conditions as they may never come. Differential issues that occurred are very rare and most likely are the effects of extreme conditions or neglect. You my friend will not allow this to happen by servicing it much sooner than recommended. this will give you the confidence to proceed

Actually, since this is my wife's car the eLSD could only qualify for neglect given her gentle driving habits. It has probably never been engaged! But it should not break down twice in two years. I think they missed something the first time. Yes, the eLSD issue is rare. Forums amplify problems since people rarely post, "My car is great and has no problems!" I could say that about my 2020 Veloster N. Nothing to complain about to date. Most Genesis vehicles will fall into that category I am confident. You can tell I am not broken-up over the eLSD issue since the warranty will cover it. A hassle to take in the car, but things happen.
