  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I was totally taken when I first saw the 2014 Genesis in Parisian Grey.
I traded my 2010 4.6 with 65,000 miles on one of last remaining New 2014
3.8 Premium Parisian Grey with 500 miles today.

It seems the 3.8 is a better fit with the 8 speed than the 2012 4.6 I drove
previously. Its clear the current transmission program suits the 3.8 torque curve. I will say the 4.6 mated to the ZF 6 speed is the most superb drive train I've ever owned. I would have preferred to have it in my New Genesis. I will miss the 50 HP, torque and silky smooth operation.
Once I lost the 260lb salesman from the back seat the 3,8 was quite spirited. The 4.6 would not have noticed.

I had to concluded, with impending forced recall of the ABS from NTSB on 2009-2012, my dealer could never be trusted to make the 2010 reliable to drive 200,000 miles.

So all and all with $8,000 off sticker and a 20yr/200,000 mile drive train warranty it was a pretty good day. And farewell to the sweetest car I've ever owned :)

I heard about the $17 million fine, but what do you know about an "impending" forced recall? There has already been a recall to swap out the fluid and inspect the HECU (although they can't seen inside it). Are they going to swap out the HECU units?

Its clear the brake fluid swap was no sure thing when corrosion is the potential issue. I felt the HECU should have been replaced. I can't see how NTSA could fine them $17 million if the Hyundai effort was adequate. My issue is with many dealers struggling to do routine maintenance correctly this critical component would be too much for me.

I agree with you that the HECU units should be replaced, but I think the $17 million fine was for failure to report the problem to the NHTSA on a timely basis according to legal requirements. This is probably a fallout of the GM problems and fines they have been charged for similar reporting violations. Although I believe they should replace the HECU units, I am not sure the $17 million fine has anything to do with that.

I guess in the end I was not willing to drive the 2010 for another 100,000 miles not knowing if a brake issue was comng.

I have a 2009 v6 and had the brake recall fix in dec 2013. They changed the fluid and said they checked the hecu unit claiming was fine.. A few weeks ago, I hit a bump when braking to a stop light in the rain. The brakes failed for a second until I repumped them. Stopped with no issues but was scary. I called back the dealer and they assessed it to be the hecu and replaced it. I feel better to have that replaced but do still have moments of flashbacks when stopping in the rain. That soon will pass.

That is the problem with "checking the HECU" they did in the recall, since they can't really see inside it.

Was your 2009 past the basic 5 year - 60K mile warranty period? Do you know if they were required to reproduce the problem, or just took your word for it?

my point precisely. You are required to have "near death" experience before Hyundai will do the responsible thing. It's really a shame. I can't think of another time they refused to step up. I believe people that like to drive 10 yrs and 150-200,000 miles are at risk. As much as I adored my 2010 4.6 she had to go.:(

The car only has 42k and is still in the 5 yr warranty. I don't know if they took it for a drive or took my word for it but they did replace the part. The biggest problem was getting a loaner. I had to open a claim with headquarters. Plus the part took several days to arrive. The car was in with the dealer for about a week.

The terms of the recall specified that a loaner was to be provided. Dealer probably just wanted to be reimbursed by HMA for that, hence asked you to open a claim with HMA.

Apparently this did not affect all Genesis. I just called my Dealer and they put my VIN # through on my 2011 4.6, and it is not affected by this Brake Fluid Thing?

Anyone know what the difference is between One that needs it and the ones that don't?

Depends on date of manufacture. Hyundai upgraded to DOT4 and/or fixed the HECU valve plating sometime in 2010, so cars made after that date won't have the problem.

Hyundai didn't upgrade to DOT 4 until 2013, if I recall correctly. Mark 888 is the recall expert, however.

Yes thanks for the correction. I see he posted the affected build dates re: DOT4 in the other thread.

Same thing for me. I called and was told that my 2012 5.0 was not included in the recall.. I dont trust the dealership i bought the car from.. The service dept is always packed and over run with cars.

I have 2011 4.6 and they changed brake fluid on mine.

Frankly, if I had a Genesis that was on the recall list for a fluid change, I would be concerned until the whole brake control module was changed out. If the original fluid caused corrosion or problems, your original module has some corrosion-------------maybe not enough to cause a problem right now, but the module is at least partially damaged.

Haha, great connection to the quote. That garage is always busy so they must do a poor job.

My 2012 was built a month after the cut off so by dumb luck I missed the recall.

You can call Hyundai Direct at 1-800-633-5151 and Double Check your Vin # with them and they will be able to tell you all of the Service Bulletins for your exact Vin #.

I just called on my 2011 4.6 and they only listed the Stop Lamp Switch and they showed that as completed.

Again, the Brake Fluid re-call did not affect ALL Genesis between 2009-2012. You have to Check.
