  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Question from this thread:
http://www.genesisowners.com/hyundai-genesis-forum/showthread.php?t=3010

For those of you perplexed by the "small opening" behind the rear armrest into the trunk, please read on:

There is a purpose for this, and I used it all the time when I owned my BMW, BMW actually told you what the purpose of this opening was via the owners manual and the accessory menu (which for some reason Hyundai did not) Included in the cold weather package of my '03 745i was a "ski bag" which worked in conjunction with the "ski pass through". It was used when hauling ski's in the trunk of the vehicle, you would put the ski's into the mounted ski bag that was unfolded out of the center armrest. This is a staple of European luxury rear wheel drive vehicles, and Hyundai incorporated the design in to the Genesis and Equus, albeit I doubt there is much skiing happening in Korea Please see the attached pic of the entire assembly. I broke out my BMW skibag and it fits perfectly in the Genny. I suppose Hyundai assumes that you will provide your own ski bag to use, cause I sure wouldn't put wet ski's thru there without the bag!

So there you go, Problem Solved!

Cheers,
Staz!

What is the BMW part number for this ski bag? The part number may be embossed on any hard surface. Thanks.

Of course it has a purpose. I have been using pass thrus for my fly rods ever since my first Honda Accord in 1987.

Also allows the bass to flow into the cabin more freely from an aftermarket sub.

Isn't there also a Standard Sub in the trunk with the Tech Package?

Yes, but it pretty much doesn't do anything, just like all the "factory" subs I've heard including the one in my Optima and Sonata, although the Optima's sub sounds better then any of my vehicles.

"Factory sub" is a good marketing tool, even though they really don't sound good.

If you have a cat, it would also allow access to the cat pan. (This is speculation, since I'm more of a dog person. But the dog never rides in my car - he goes with my wife in her car).

Don't you mean the factory sub dosen't rattle everones windows and make stuff fall off their shelves when I drive down the street?

The factory sub in my '12 R Spec works just fine. ;)

The factory sub in my 2010 4.6 with Tech Pkg works fine!

Not at all. Just because it works doesn't mean that the factory sub actually sounds good, but it's better than not having it at all. A sub enhances any type of music and doesn't have to break the sound barrier. Do you have annoying teenage kids on your block?;)

2nd - The OEM sub is mounted on the rear deck of the vehicle. When did this small and underpowered sub get the power to push all of that air inside the trunk for sound projection and quality? It doesn't have the ability to do this well, that's for sure. the factory sub needs it's own sealed box at the minimum. But that would cost more money, and this is an area where Hyundai was looking to save a few bucks. Rolls Royce uses a Lexicon system with 2, 10 inch subs which are mounted under the rear seat in sealed or ported boxes specific to the sub.

geez, now I feel like a dumbass! lol..just can't imagine Koreans skiing is all.
Like Jamaican bobsledding

Gee how'd you guess? :)

I'm not sure what they have in their suburban but I know they can't hear anything. At 2 blocks away, I can hear them coming and things start ratteling in the house. At 1 block away, they shut down some of the amps but it still rattles everything in the house. I've lost a 500 dollar mirror off the wall but I can't prove it was because of them.

I've had to resort to calling the cops on them as they quit listining to me. Or maybe they just can't hear me. ;) Of course they lied to the cops and said they had teh wrong house that there was no green suburban that belonge dthere or was there, even though it was in the back hiding in the garage. Seems that when Dad is home though, I have no noise problems.

I like my loud music, just not THAT loud.

That sucks! I'd maybe buy a decibel meter from Amazon for $10 and measure how loud their stereo is in your house. I'm not sure if the meter will pick up just the bass however.

I do know that the 17 speaker Lexicon plays at 100 decibels undistorted:)
