The Kia 900, like Equus has 2 different trim levels (Premium and Luxury), and there is even an $8K add-on package that needs to be added to the Luxury trim to get all the goodies.

I forgot you need that package to get heads up display... I thought "Luxury" had everything. That's what I want. I need to see if CarMax has any of those and what the price would be. I wonder if people are selling their K900 so quickly because they're frustrated about not having HUD after spending $60k on a luxury car from South Korea...

I thought maybe most of the ones on CarMax were courtesy cars for the NBA or a golf tournament. Yep, the HUD makes the list price $68K and hard to believe that many of the ones on CarMax at about $38K are that trim level (Luxury with VIP Package).

This. Most of the cars on carmax are listed as lease/fleet cars (check the history report).

I'm not entirely sure how I feel about buying a fleet car but I'll either get a Kia K900 or, perhaps, another Genesis. I mean - a Genesis is a pretty darn good worst case scenario.

The interesting thing is that fleet can me so many different things. That is just a corporation (like the NBA or NFL) buying a car. A Fleet vehicle with 10k miles on it? That means its not a rental car lol

These are not rentals. Not sure who had them. But one of the cars on the site - I think it was in the north east states - shows it was a manufacturer vehicle on the Carfax report for registration.

Probably corporate executive vehicles for Kia or perhaps NBA or something to that effect. Especially since they seem to be intentionally spread across the country.

^ That. I visited my local dealer today to inquire about the k900 new and they said that the k900 is special order only and are not being shipped to every dealer without an order. Interesting lol

Only designated Kia dealerships get the K900, but I suspect one can special order one from a dealership that is not designated.

Would be a good period of time, but getting a 2G K900 (better ride, better interior, AWD option and hopefully better design) off (non-rental) fleet for around $45-47k would be a tempting bargain.

Do you mean 2G Equus there? Because I imagine a 2G K900 is a ways off...

The next gen Equus will be the 3G (the 1G Equus/Centennial was FWD).

While the K9/K900 was launched 3 yrs after the 2G Equus in 2012, don't think Kia will wait that long to launch the next gen K900 - probably 2 yrs after the 3G Equus launch (which is in about a yr), so about 3 yrs away.

Another 3 yrs waiting for used 2G K900s to hit the market - so around 2020-2021.

Anyhow, w/ available AWD, a TTV6 option, better sheetmetal, etc. - think the 2G K900 can match the Jaguar XJ in sales (which, while not great, isn't bad considering).

The Equus we have here debuted in 2009. The Kia K900 debuted as a 2015 model and definitely appears newer inside and out than the Equus...

Don't worry - the Genesis has a higher quality interior than the Cadenza. But the Kia isn't far off. Still, everything about the Genesis is at least one level above the Cadenza.

People don't buy 30k Kia's. The ones over 30k have thousands in rebates and discounts. The Cadenza has unfortunately been a disaster in regards to sales. The Equus as well. No getting around it.

Amazingly to their credit Lincoln nor Acura offer a car of this magnitude. Really odd when you think about it. A V-8 RWD Kia!

It IS amazing. And really - Cadillac doesn't either. But the new CT6 will be excellent once it's ready for sale.

I don't think I've ever seen a commercial for the Equus - or even the Cadenza... Certainly not the K900 other than on YouTube. The Equus does happen to sell well here in Florida. I see them every day. The K900 - not yet. The Cadenza - I see it every so often.

Cars like the K900 and Equus are really intended to sell in low quantities but to give credence to other products like the Sonata, Elantra, Optima, Forte, etcetera. I'm actually shocked that the Cadenza doesn't sell well. I think that asking price is a little too high - but it's a really, really nice car...

It was never meant as a volume seller so I'm not terribly surprised. It just brings attention to the brand and gets people talking about $60k KIA's and KIA in general in a positive light compared to a few years ago. They are great cars and I wouldn't hesitate in buying a used one in a couple of years.

Interesting take on their marketing strategy.

I would be very interested to see sales rate growth rather than absolute volume. That might provide some insight into how this vehicle is being received.
