So, how much can I vary the size from a 235/45/19 Tire ? This would be for a 2014 R Spec. The Tire Size for the 2014 3.8 is 235/50/18 and the Tire I want is available in this Size.

Would I have to buy Different Wheels or could I vary the Tire a Bit? What are the downsides to putting 18 inch wheels on the R Spec?

18" wheels may not fit on an r-spec due to size of the brakes. the r-spec has larger brakes. Have you checked tirerack.com for all the brands of tires available in the correct size for the R-spec? You may find another tire you like.

Tire Rack has 4 tires for the R-Spec and all of them are Crap in Snow!

I need a tire like the Conti DWS Extreme Contact which I now have on my 2011. Pirelli Makes another Great All Season

Maybe the Conti DWS in 245-40-19. Its very close in revs per mile ( only 7 revs different) and I think it will work fine. Take a look.

That is what I was asking about in my OP. I have looked at this size and was wondering how it might do on a R-Spec. Also the Pirelli Cinturato P7 All Season Plus is a great tire in the snow with Great Ride Noise marks as well!

245 is the size that came on my '12 R Spec. It's the size of the factory summer optioned tires. The all season factory tires are 235. So yes, a 245 will fit the stock rims and the car. ;) When I bought new tires, I went from the original Bridgestone SO4 pole position 245 summer tires to a 245 Conti DW summer tire and really like them.

Can you tell me how you calculated that it would be 7 revs Different than the 235/45/19 ? Also which way would this affect my Speedometer/Odometer?

Here's some rough caliculations for you converting from the meteric ratio system to the old inch system that most of us understand. ;)

245/40/19 tire is 9.65" wide and 26.72" tall. so basically a 27 X 9.5 19
235/45/19 is 9.25" wide and 28.2" tall. a 28 X 9 19.

The sidewall of a 245 is 3.86" while the 235 is 4.16"

As for difference in the speedo, you probably won't notice it since Hyundai puts both size tires on the R Spec from the factory. Your talking about a 1" less distance traveled per revolution of the tire.

This is the wheel I am using in 18x8 on a 2012 R-Spec. The installer recommended they use 3/8 spacers in front, because although they cleared the brakes, hard cornering might have caused caliper contact.

Advanti is a sub-brand of Koenig. I like these wheels, which are also available in silver. Bought them from NTB, who I have had very good success with. Discount Tire, who I also like, stumbled a bit with sourcing something that would fit. NTB ordered these from Tire Rack's (wholesale division). They are cheap (under $180 as I remember, and very light, which is always a good thing with wheels. I'm sure they are Chinese gravity-cast, but there are plenty of good wheels in this category, and if there were quality problems, Tire Rack would not sell them.

:)

That's 17 revolutions per mile. 2.2% which means at a indicated 100 MPH, you would really only be doing 97.8 MPH if you go with the 245/40 19.

Are you really going to notice that?

RPM statistics are readily found on the internet. It shouldn't be that much off.

I probably wouldn't notice it, but I'm trying to get the closest size that I can. (Nothing wrong with that, as far as I can tell).

I have played around with the Calculator and the size of 245/45/19 seems a lot closer. Only 9 revs/Mile and only 1.3% Difference.

Specification Sidewall Radius Diameter Circumference Revs/Mile Difference
235/45-19 4.2in 13.7in 27.3in 85.8in 738 0.0%
245/45-19 4.3in 13.8in 27.7in 87.0in 729 1.3%

FYI -

my OEM 235 50 18 was 4 mph off actual GPS speed vs needle speedo.

my R Spec 245 45 19 is only 1 mph off actual GPS speed vs needle speedo.

I'm glad my "upgrade" also improved my speedo accuracy:)

OK, Good to know.... You obviously went through these calculations as well and arrived at the same size that I did. What tires are you using in the 245/45/19 ?

When did you get the R Spec (Time to update you Signature Line) ?

I don't have the actual R Spec trim level, just the wheels/tires and soon to be suspension. (All my vehicle info is in my signature below)

I'm using the Conti DW's which are a great tire......buuuuttttttttt....if I were to buy new tires soon I'd get the Michelin Pilot super sports. These are also a summer tires just as the DW's are.

These 2 tires in the first pic shown below are a great option for you for a 19" tire. The 2nd tire is the DWS as you mentioned. Did you see how many miles are reported for reviews on the DWS - Holy Moses:eek:

Otherwise - the next pic is for less performance oriented tires: You can probably pass on the Bridgestones since they don't rate well in snow etc.

Yup, I have the DWS Extreme Contact Contis on my 2011 Genesis. I will get a 2014 R Spec soon (Less than 1 month) and Will get the Pirellis that you listed on your Chart.

The Contis worked perfect this past winter! No trouble at all with the snow and ice. BTW - I took the Bridgestones off ... They were terrible in snow. No traction at all!

per tire rack from mfg specifications. 235-45-19 contiprocontact 761 revs per mile. 245-40-19 conti DWS 778 revs per mile. my 7 was a typo. But 17 is no big thing.

Agree, but the 245/45/19 is closer yet to the OEM Size. Might as well get the closest.
