  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Thieves broke in...

I've left my Genesis accidently unlocked before. The reason being there was two of us and we both assumed the other had locked it. It happens!!!

It doesn't have an automatic lock feature after x number of minutes?

Haven't had time to read the humongous manual.

I'm positive that's not the case. I've left the doors unlocked with the key out and the engine off for an entire day before.

The only time I've seen the car lock itself is if you unlock by the remote fob and then don't open a door within 30 seconds.

My 2010 has locked itself several times.. I've been working on the exterior with the key out of the car and it locks the doors..

I don't know about unlocking the car and walking away! Not brave enough to try that!

I've noticed that if I hit the lock button on the door before I'm quite far enough out of the car, it will lock, then immediately unlock thinking the keys are inside the car. I now just use the button on the handle. Just food for thought.

Gambler is SPOT-ON with that statement, and many here need to be extra careful of their internal proximity when trying to lock the doors from the inside when exiting the vehicle... I'm pretty sure the door has to be open and the the key fob needs to be physically OUT of the interior of the car at a minimum before a lock press will "stay" without reversing.

Try it for yourself! Turn off your engine, open the door, press lock. The lock will reverse. Now get up and out of the vehicle. Press lock again. It will stay locked.

I've found my doors unlocked a few times in the first month or two of ownership and fortunately didn't have to learn my lesson the hard way, but did notice this reverse/unlock happening a few times when I paid attention.

Easiest ways to avoid the problem (as mentioned already) are to use the push button on the door handle or the remote on the key fob itself after closing the doors.
