I had something else happen to me today, that got corrected when I rebooted the system (re-started the car after letting it sit for a few minutes).

1. Today, I was talking on the phone using the Bluetooth in the car, WHILE I WAS PARKED. Then without thinking, I shut the car off, without shutting off the bluetooth connection. As soon as I did it, I restarted car, but NO Bluetooth connection. The DIS showed the bluetooth setting was correct, but no bluetooth. Then I remembered. "Let the car sit for a few minutes and it will ReBoot on starting car". I let it sit for about three minutes, then restarted car, and I then had the bluetooth connection again. :D

2. A couple weeks after I first got the car, I started it up, the ESC lamp stayed lighted and car would not get out of Park. (This also happened to another person on this group). Shut car off, and while talking with someone, trying to figure out what was happening, (over three minutes), started car up again (car reboots) and I could shift out of Park. :D Never happened again.

3. A few weeks ago, I started car, and AM/FM/XM/CD (radios) did not work. To be more exact, no sound from speakers, as I could see what was playing on the DIS screen. (Again, this also happened to another person on this group). Remembering the reboot, (while I was going for groceries), I was not worried. Went in for groceries (was there for longer than 3 minutes), came out and started car (reboots) and radios (speakers) all worked again. :D
The only thing that worried me about this was 'what would happen if I got a phone call through the cars bluetooth'? Probably would not be able to hear the person I was talking with. Never happened again.

4. A few months ago, I could not unlock the car. Tried both with the button on the door handle, and also with the unlock button on the key fob. Unlocked the car with the "emergency key". Car did start up in the normal way. When I parked car, I locked it with the button on the door handle. Next time I unlocked door, (car parked for a while) it worked perfectly. :D

I'm sure there are other things that could (and will) go wrong. When that happens, (and it will), just re-boot (shut car off, let sit for three minutes or so minimum, then restart) and all should be well.

All excellent pointers, thanks. With the need to re-boot on occasion, it's almost as if Hyundai used Windows Vista as the operating system... :D

I've had the stuck in park thing multiple times but the ESC light does not come on. Shut off and restart without any wait worked for me.

I'd hate to have to wait the three minutes to get it out of park, especially if I was robbing a bank. Uh, just kidding!

Sorry your having those issues but its good to know that a reboot will correct them. Thanks for the update!

I have issues with navtraffic. Sometimes traffic lights up and other times it doesnt. Not sure why this happens. I dont think a restart cures it. Just seems to fix itself on its own. Annoying, but navtraffic in my area is pretty useless. I only get the traffic accident updates.

As for the "Traffic" not lighting up, I think that is a XM function, not a DIS function. On my way back to Florida from New Mexico a few weeks ago, my "Traffic" also did not light up, however it later lit up without me doing anything. If XM is not transmitting the data, the "Traffic" will not light up, and you will not be able to see where there are any accidents, or traffic tie ups.

Could not unlock car again today from the drivers door button. Rather than using the emergency key, then starting the car, I just walked around to the passenger door, and unlocked it from the passenger door button. Walked around to driver door, and got in, started, and drove off. Next time I used the car, it unlocked perfect using the driver door button.

This may not be a re-booting thing, but strange, just the same.

While out today (I'm in Penfield NY for a few more days), I got in the car, and saw that the seat did not go forward to my preset position. OK, I hit the button on the door, and the seat would not go to its preset position. I then moved the seat forward using the adjustment on the side of the seat. All well and fine, except because I pushed the seat up too far, when I tried to make it go back a bit, it would not go back. Everything else worked, tilt, up, down and forward, but it would not go back. Great. I'm going to have to drive it like this until I can get a local dealer look at it. (BTW, the steering wheel tilt worked when I hit the pre-set button, just the seat would not work). Well, I drove the car like this, with my knee's up in my chest for a bit, (trying to get the seat to go back every so often) and when I arrived at my destination, I shut the car off and guess what. The seat retracted back the way it should. The seat then worked even when I moved it with the manual switch.

This car is starting to have a mind of its own.

I've had a couple of times that I've coasted up to a stop in neutral (a habit from have 6S MT's the last three cars) and shifted into drive but it stayed in neutral. This and a multitude of other electronic issues brought up in this forum indicates faulty computer programming. I would hope Hyundai will continue to work on patches.

Other than these electronics issues, I really do enjoy driving this car. I may not have purchased it had the salesman not told me that the traction could be shut off. Please Hyundai, patch this.

I've had two occasions that required a reboot to resolve:

1- The Lexicon system would not output any sound.
2- The XM radio - It would not change the XM station, even though it displayed the station I wanted.

Are others seeing these types of intermittant issues requiring a reboot?

Yes, I did, multiple times, but few and far in between. BTW, my Lexicon would only mute it's output in DVD-playback mode only. It would still work in all other inputs such as AUX (iPod), XM and FM.

UPDATE:

I now have 12000 miles on the car. This morning, while in my garage, I started it up. ESC lamp stayed on, plus the "beeper" (same beeper that is used when you get too close to an object) was sounding. At first, I thought I was too close to the edge of the garage, but I then saw the ESC lamp, plus car would not get out of Park.

Shut it off, and restarted. (Did not wait for any rebooting). All was normal that second start.

Well, I guess if this is only the second time in 12000 miles, I can't complain too much as I did not loose a lot of time.

I have also had no sound with the Lexicon, I did not try the reboot but removed the left hand side amp fuse and repalced sound back.. 2 times with-in 2 days and no problem for the last 3 weeks... Mind of its own or windows me Hyundai needs to do somthing to thier $4000 tech package

This is not a Re-Boot thing, but strange, nevertheless.

Got in car, and drove off. Looked at the screen, and noticed that my Bluetooth indicator was not lighted. WTF? Went to the screens that show what cell phone I'm paired with, and it showed nothing. Strange. (I was then looking for a place to pull over to read the instructions on pairing the phone to the car). I then looked down again, and I saw the indicator light up. STRANGE. Went back to the screen and it now showed that I'm paired to the phone.

Have no idea what happened. No idea if it was a cell phone glitch or a Genesis glitch. Don't matter. Its all working correct again.

As Red Buttons (you remember Red Buttons, don't you?) would say,

"Strange Things Are Happening"!

I wish re-booting would work for me. I really liked the seat moving back and the steering wheel up out of the way prior to exit. My steering wheel now has a mind of it's own moving very little. It even responds with a "jerking motion" ... when adjusted up or down manually. Sometime it won't move at all. Re-booting hasn't helped. We will see what happens when I take it in for service.

Personally, if I had to reboot my car to get things to work more than a few times, I would take it in for service, because that's unacceptable with any electronic device, let alone a $30K car. And if the dealer was unable to resolve, I'd complain to the manufacturer.

Your exactly right. Got my Genesis on June 30th, 09'. 5 miles out of the dealership, the seat belt warning light stayed on. Took it back, they scanned it and no code came up. They said they re-booted it. Drove from Southern Calif. to Las Vegas, 4 hours, and nothing, the second I got off the highway, it started again.
Made my appointment with my local dealer, when driving over there, the audio system locks up. 8 Hours later, dealer says it's fixed, go pick it up, start the car, no audio. Shut it off, go find the service manager, we get back into the car and audio works.
I told him about this forum and how "rebooting" takes care of some things, he says we shouldn't have to do this.
Drive off the lot and the seat belt warning light came back on. I had my car now for 8 days, seat belt warning light/chime stays on, audio system haas locked up twice.
To me this is totally unacceptable, not only for it occurring, but for both dealership tech's not fixing the problem. Highly disappointed. We should not be accepting this re-boot phenomenon.

It would seem to me there is a software/hardware problem. I haven't had to "reboot" my pc (I mean car) yet. (almost 10k miles) Which would suggest not software but hardware.

Maybe an ECU swap is required, more than one owner has had the swap performed.

I'm a new 4.6 owner just joining the site. Bought mine on Memorial Day. I've had 3 instances of an ESC light/locked shifter since then (29 Jun, 12 Jul and 22 Jul). My situation's the same...ESC light on after start-up, shift lever locked in park, ESC light clears after a re-start (no 3 minute waiting).

Fortunately I carry a code reader (old habit from my previous car). Just for grins I checked for codes when I got the ESC light and sure 'nuff I'd popped a U0101pd (Lost Comm w/TCM) and I've been getting the same reading each time. Since it is only a "pd" code it's not tripping the CEL and it obviously clears itself when there are no repeat occurances after several engine cycles.

My guess is the ESC is trying to communicate with the TCM before the "network" has booted up at engine start. When it can't communicate it shuts down the ESC, triggers the light and locks up the tranny.

Thanks for your info. Out of curiosity, what kind of code reader do you carry? I may get one just to have it on hand in case something like this pops up to capture this info before taking it to the dealer as it might not reoccur when they testing it due to a "reboot."
