  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Things Re-Booting Corrects

Just a run-of-the-mill Actron CP9125 PocketScan OBDII code reader (about $65-$70). All it does is report fault codes, no other fancy capabilities or functions, but I've found it very useful on many occasions, being able to immediately check for a code before I change anything...like shutting off the car. For instance when I restarted the car after getting an ESC light, which clears the ESC light, and then check the OBDII codes again, I find the U0101 code is gone. I never would have known that there was a communication loss with the TCM had I not checked the OBDII codes when the ESC light came on.

I really hope that hyundai will do something about their computer problems because it said seeing all of u guys (including me)having so many problems with this genesis.when u pay that kind of money for a car u expect more than just looks.

I have had my '10 4.6 with Tech for 3 weeks. Yesterday I was on the highway playing an audiobook on my iPhone when I hit a bump and my DIS rebooted. It did that several times on my trip.

I'm a new 4.6 owner just joining the site. Bought mine on Memorial Day. I've had 3 instances of an ESC light/locked shifter since then (29 Jun, 12 Jul and 22 Jul). My situation's the same...ESC light on after start-up, shift lever locked in park, ESC light clears after a re-start (no 3 minute waiting).

Fortunately I carry a code reader (old habit from my previous car). Just for grins I checked for codes when I got the ESC light and sure 'nuff I'd popped a U0101pd (Lost Comm w/TCM) and I've been getting the same reading each time. Since it is only a "pd" code it's not tripping the CEL and it obviously clears itself when there are no repeat occurances after several engine cycles.

My guess is the ESC is trying to communicate with the TCM before the "network" has booted up at engine start. When it can't communicate it shuts down the ESC, triggers the light and locks up the tranny.

Sounds like a few of you guys are experiencing opens some where in your circuits. Probably need to chase down all the connections, unplug and replug them back in.

That ESC light/gear lock-up happened twice on my '09 V8.
A simple ignition off/on fixed it both times.
I'm okay with this problem happening once or twice a year, but any more than that, it'll get annoying.
Glad I didn't have any case where the DIS system reboots. :knock on wood:

I've gone all winter w/o an ESC light/shift lock-up, despite a rash of them in the several months after I bought my Genny last May. It will be interesting to see if they crop back up as things warm up.
