  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Genesis GV70
It has been a year since I bought my GV70. I still can't comprehend why the most simple technology features can be installed in the Kia-Hyundai basic models but they can't be found in the GV70. 1- The GV70 lacks of wireless Android/Apple Play. 2- No walk away auto lock. Instead it text you a message that car door is unlock (worthless). 3- The mesh fabric seats are as uncomfortable as they can be. I'd like to know if the Napa leather is any better. It is sad to have paid so much for a car that fails to deliver the most simple and convenient everyday features.

Before you bought it did you do an extended test drive? If so, what was your conclusion about the comfort level of the seats? Prior to owning my GV60P I was a BMW owner and on the BMW forum one of the most hotly contested issue was which seat package was terrific and which was horrible. My conclusion: no seat package is best for everyone so do an extended drive with the seating package you are getting.

A one time extended test drive is not enough to get the feeling of the comfort level of the seats. All the online reviews spoke well about the comfort. That mesh feels like sand paper after hours of driving. My Honda Ridgeline seats are by far more comfortable.

I agree with the lack of wireless Apple CarPlay. That’s a pretty significant fail. But I finally found an adapter that seems to work reliably.

I have the Sport Prestige model, which has alcantara seat inserts, and Napa leather bolsters. They’re not as luxurious as a Volvo, but I find them comfortable and supportive.

Why be unhappy? Time to trade it in for something that has the features you like.

Do you get leather if you bump up a model? Looks like they all say "leatherette seating surface" but the $6000 Advance get leather. Maybe Rayco seat covers would help. Many car owners got them back in the 50s.

Can't speak to the seats as I have the Sport/Prestige with the quilted leather and they are quite comfortable.

I would say my biggest gripes are:
1) the key FOB does not tie to the seat memory or driver profile (a huge miss that EVERY other car has)
2) stupid 'lawyer page' displays on start-up (most others have eliminated this or provide a setting to turn it off)
3) it needs a more aggressive exhaust note
4) needs a setting to disable the stupid auto start/stop (eliminate the the bread clip or aftermarket pig tail fix's)
5) setting to eliminate the 'speed limit' display in the HUD
6) both front console USB ports need to be full function
7) when going from reverse to drive the delay in switching the rear view to the gauges needs to be eliminated

2. The lawyer page disappears after a few seconds. I never notice it. Maybe change your startup routine and buckle the belt at a different time or something.

4. You have to take that up with the EPA. Car makers have no choice

#4 is not entirely true for the start/stop. I could turn it off in my F150 and neither of my Durango's (both with V8's - 5.7L & 6.4L) had it at all.
At a minimum they could make it an option tied to the custom drive mode which would circumvent the EPA 'startup default' rule !

I hate nothing about mine. So far, best auto I've ever had. LOVE this thing!

The car has to default start in the mode tested, or better. If not tested that way, it can be turned off.
My car will not retain Sport mode, but is will in Eco mode.

Your Durango was offset by having smaller more efficiency cars in the fleet for the averaging. Depends on the model year rules in effect at the time.

If the car was tested with ISG, #4 applies.

Don't forget that key fob appears to only works while the car in a plain view. Appears to have same range as a Bluetooth device. I can remote start my Honda Ridgeline almost like from the length of a football field in any direction. Not the case for the GV70

The stop/start thingie is very vehicle-dependent. In certain years of Porsches it always resets to ON when you park the car and then restart it, in other years, the same model - retains whatever the last setting was as well as the setting based on the key memory.

And that's about the only significant fail I see on Genny's part - that there is no link of key to memory. That's been on Porsches since around 2006 or so...

Depends on how that Porsche was tested for the EPA mileage. If it was on, it has to default to on every time. A few cars did not use it for the test.

Some people seem to have to hate. If the car doesn’t suit the OP it begs the question why did he buy it? He got what he researched online, inspected in the show room and test drove. If the car doesn’t suit his needs he has no one to blame but himself.

I love my GV70. The quilted Napa leather seats are the most comfortable car seats I have ever experienced. Nicest car by far that I have owned, yet not mushy on the road. In fact handles nicely. This is coming from a multiple Mercedes owner. Surprisingly economical, I got the V6 and was expecting to get terrible fuel consumption but it’s surprisingly good. No worse than my previous Benz. Admittedly a lot of my driving is on the highway.

I've mentioned this elsewhere, but just for fun, I used the Porsche "Configurator" to figure out what a comparable Porsche would cost compared to the GV70. The GV70 is Cayenne sized (I have one of each parked in the driveway, so the comparison is easy - both exterior size/wheelbase and interior passenger compartment/trunk area). A lot of people compare it to a Macan - which is considerably smaller, with almost unusable rear seats...

So I picked a Cayenne /S - it's performance specifications are very close (a tad slower) to the GV70 3.5 Prestige. Then I added everything to the Cayenne that the Genny Prestige level comes with standard. It's a rather long list. If you've ever bought a new Porsche you'll know that unless you're buying one off the lot (and there are typically very few new lot cars..) it's an ala cart'e experience. Almost everything you want is an option. Options aren't cheap on a Porsche. The "base" price of a Cayenne /S with a few of the standard "packages" comes in around $115,000. By the time it's equipped and outfitted to match the GV70 Prestige - it's almost exactly twice the price of the Genny. About $140,000 before luxury tax, sales tax, paperwork charges, delivery charges, etc. It's a damn nice car - but it's a LOT of money, and to me (I had a "base" 2024 Cayenne for 2 weeks while mine was in for service) it's certainly not 2X the car. To me - and I've driven a lot of Porsches - it's about an equal for performance, handling and comfort. The Genny is superior in the user interfaces and the assisted driving capabilities (which was a big draw for us since we're near our 8th decade circling the sun..)

Like APS - it's one of the nicest cars I've owned (and I've owned a LOT of cars) and given the choice leaving the house between a Porsche Boxster, a Porsche Cayenne Turbo, or the GV70 - the Genny quite frequently gets the nod. Maybe it's just the new factor attracting me to it, but it's fun to drive, something I value a LOT in automobiles.

As usual - YMMV..

Agree 💯. The reason I have the GV70 instead of the Macan. The Macan was far more expensive equipped similarly. Plus, I love the Bentley look and feel of the Genesis.

There is still a possibility that wireless could come. They settled their war with Apple and are introducing it as an upgrade in Europe. We'll see if it shows up on the next major update.

I agree - I have the same seats and I really like them. Awesome when it is -40 outside - no super-cold leather seats!

You can get a cable to plug in behind the dash that allows you to fully disable auto start/stop until you turn it back on again. Cheap fix.

Yeah, the key link is stupid - I had it on my 2003 Suburban and I have it on my 2017 GMC Sierra truck...

Does anyone have a link to that cable or should I just go to AliExpress (which always gets expensive, I never get away for less than $35..)

Found it on AliExpress - around $40 - which isn't cheap, but better than listening to complaints by the wife.
