  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Things that I hate in my GV70

My only gripe is the Blinker sound. I knew what it sounded like from numerous videos reviews prior to my test-drive / purchase.

It is incredibly minor thing, and there are so many other things that I love about my GV70 that I can live with it.

Strangely I like the blinker sound as I can hear it, unlike my previous Benz.

The Start-Stop Thingie:

I installed it today. It came in a brown cardboard box, just the cable and a mini-plastic pry bar. The photo of it on AliExpress shows that pry bar going behind the button assembly on the dash... but reading about someone who did one on another Genesis, they mentioned there is a screw holding that switch in position. SO - I went in through the side.

On the end of the dash is a black plastic panel (grain sort of finish) - looks EXACTLY like the one Genny copied it from (Cayenne), and guess what - it comes out exactly like it does on my Porsches. First you pull the rubber weatherstripping away from the doorframe in the area of the panel, then you use a plastic pry bar to pull out the plastic panel. To keep from making a mess of the material on the dash, I used a microfiber towel as a buffer behind the pry levers (and yes - I used more than one. I got it started in one spot, and left the lever in place to keep it open, then worked another lever around the edge from that open space, and eventually it popped off undamaged.

Now you can't exactly see the connector you're going to remove, and there isn't enough room in the openings in the side panel to get a phone in there to take a decent picture (and what a PITA it is to use a cell phone camera blind where you can't see the on-screen button..) SO - you're mostly going to go by hand, and if your special tool drawer has an inspection mirror - that mirror (useful thing, about $4 at Harbor Freight - sometimes a door prize Telescoping Mirror) You also can access that area from underneath by pulling the "Fuse" cover off the lower dash (there are no fuses back there that I can see...) and reaching up through there.

So first unplug the cable from the switch. Follow with your fingers and the top of the connector has a locking tab that you can just barely depress with your thumbnail while pulling on the wiring with your other fingers. It is the connector closest to the opening (I think it may also be the only connector going to that area..)

Using that mirror you can just about make out the receptacle that the new cable should plug into. This is VERY frustrating. You can't directly see the receptacle, you need to use the mirror to see it, then what I finally did was put my finger on the bottom edge of the opening and guided the new connector into it, until it clicked. This part of the project involved about 45 minutes of mild cursing and swearing, and regrets that I ever started the job.. and I couldn't see a screw holding that panel in place, but there might have been one -- I just couldn't see one.

I took some photos trying to see the connector - they're pretty much crap but I might upload one so you know I made the effort..

So - overall job:
- Disassembly - about 5 minutes
- Reassembly - give yourself an hour

Stuff needed:
- The cable (duh..) https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256806472707876.html
- Inspection mirror (see above)
- A variety of plastic pry bars
- Microfiber towel

It works. Turn the ignition on, notice the switch is not lit, after about 10 seconds it IS lighted meaning Stop/Start is disabled. If you want to reverse the scenario there was some nonsense on the website where you could reprogram it so it wasn't there, but I see absolutely no reason to do that.

DISCLAIMER: I take no responsibility for what you do to your car. I'm just telling people what I did to my car. You may be someone who shouldn't be within 30 feet of a sledgehammer. I might be a babbling baboon. Whatever you do - be a big boy and take responsibility for your own actions. I also take no responsibility for your becoming addicted to AliExpress, so much, so cheap, and the majority of it is crappola. There are some very funny and odd things for sale if you wander into the "adult" section of AliExpress. Things I've never seen before. But - not my fault if you buy them and they fail to meet your expectations - you've been forewarned.

What is on the AliExpress page:

I'd like to report "suspicious activity" - but to whom?

Can anyone make any sense out of the instructions?

I didn't follow their instructions since I hate replacing expensive plastic that I broke, and it's probably backordered forever from Korea (even though the vehicle was made in good old Alabama, USA.)

UPDATE - I left the vendor a message yesterday on AliExpress about installing it - I asked if they really meant to pry the switch out the front (which seems like it would be a whole lot easier), in response, they thanked their friend for asking, and sent the following illustration:

SO - if someone is feeling brave... (btw - the connectors are all white, no red to be seen..)

I wish there was an easier way to get in there, no way would I be able to fit the ham hocks at the end of my wrists into that tiny area.
I have seen at least 1 other post where someone did pry off the button panel, which of course makes fiddling with the plug 1000% easier.
Just don't have the nads to try that myself.

Need to try & find someone with long thin piano player fingers to assist. I really hate this damn thing and the bread clip trick does not seem to work for mine (the button 'walks back' & the stupid thing in on again at the next start). 😧 :poop::(

Before you bought it did you do an extended test drive? If so, what was your conclusion about the comfort level of the seats? Prior to owning my GV60P I was a BMW owner and on the BMW forum one of the most hotly contested issue was which seat package was terrific and which was horrible. My conclusion: no seat package is best for everyone so do an extended drive with the seating package you are getting.

Test drive means nothing with the sales agent breathing down your neck. Now, if the dealership can give us 1 whole day with the car, it would give us the full experience.

Yeah, the blinker sound is annoying as F.

I like that you can hear that the blinker is on, unlike my Previous vehicle a Lexus.

Obviously you're closer to my age... and yes - it's nice to hear the blinker..

Another vote for the blinker and I couldn't hear the one in my Lexus.

I need to add, how much dirt the tailgate seems to attract. This may not be a singular to the GV70 or even Genesis. Maybe it is simply how obsessively I attempt to keep her clean and I didn't notice specifically on my previous vehicle.

The rear window and tailgate seems to attract the most dirt, dust, pollen, or whatever at a greater rate than the rest if the car

I recall some station wagons had a roof rack and at the tail end, a deflector channeled the air down the back end. I don't think you can do that on the GV and not look ugly.

The GV typically has a spoiler on the back end above the window, the purpose of which is to NOT allow air down the back end.

Yet the entire back window gets filthy, and the top of the window is more difficult to reach with the narrow gap between the spoiler and window

Not sure how it would look, but they could put some sort of air deflector in it. I imagine they are more concerned about aerodynamics for MPG than for a clean tailgate.

That's sorta the reason for a spoiler. I had an Izuzu Trooper-II (awful car) - had a dead flat rear end, only bump was the license plate light. They sold a curved sort of air deflector that went right where the spoiler on our cars is. It directed air back down along the rear of the car. It went from being filthy back there to staying clean. It worked fine, broke the vacuum behind the car that sucked stuff up from under the car, but bet it didn't help fuel mileage.

It has been a year since I bought my GV70. I still can't comprehend why the most simple technology features can be installed in the Kia-Hyundai basic models but they can't be found in the GV70. 1- The GV70 lacks of wireless Android/Apple Play. 2- No walk away auto lock. Instead it text you a message that car door is unlock (worthless). 3- The mesh fabric seats are as uncomfortable as they can be. I'd like to know if the Napa leather is any better. It is sad to have paid so much for a car that fails to deliver the most simple and convenient everyday features.
The current model "does" in fact have wireless apple and android autoplay. It connects very fast. Why on earth would anyone want walk away auto lock. I'd be livid if my car had that. If I'm too dumb to remember to lock my own car, then I don't deserve one. That's just sheer laziness. When I'm walking back and forth to my car, I sure as hell dont' want the damn thing constantly locking it and I have to constantly unlock the blasted thing! Let "me" lock it when I'm ready! At least it lets you know it's not locked, how anyone can routinely walk away from their car and "forget" to lock or is too lazy to lock it is beyond me. Must leave the house constantly unlocked too!!!! The Napa leather seats are amazing! The most comfortable I've ever sat in.

In fairness, many of the features on these vehicles cater to sheer laziness / convenience. E.g.,
  • Motorized windows (rented a U-Haul earlier this month… first time I’ve seen handles to roll down the windows in years)
  • Lock/Unlocked doors when touching the door handle
  • Motorized trunk door
  • Wireless CarPlay / Android Auto
  • Soft close doors

Can't speak to the seats as I have the Sport/Prestige with the quilted leather and they are quite comfortable.

I would say my biggest gripes are:
1) the key FOB does not tie to the seat memory or driver profile (a huge miss that EVERY other car has)
2) stupid 'lawyer page' displays on start-up (most others have eliminated this or provide a setting to turn it off)
3) it needs a more aggressive exhaust note
4) needs a setting to disable the stupid auto start/stop (eliminate the the bread clip or aftermarket pig tail fix's)
5) setting to eliminate the 'speed limit' display in the HUD
6) both front console USB ports need to be full function
7) when going from reverse to drive the delay in switching the rear view to the gauges needs to be eliminated
1) Not EVERY car has the key fob tied to the seat memory. Coming from a 2024 Lexus NX, and trust me key fobs are not tied.
