If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Thinking about a Genesis coming from an Audi S4

I love my S4 so it is not something I am looking forward to getting rid of, one of the reasons I am taking my time. But I am going to save a ton of money on the genesis compared to my S4 so that is one big benefit. I am still debating going to look at the Infiniti Q50 as well before making my final decision. The Q50 has some really nice lease specials right now as well.

The Q50 is certainly worth a look - I test drove one before buying the Genesis. A bit more sporty than the Genesis, but not as spacious or as comfortable. I definitely preferred the Genesis inside and out. It will sit closer on the sportiness spectrum to your Audi, though, so that may appeal.

Infinti definitely has some great lease offers right now. I used to own a Q50 prior to the Genesis, and the trunk of the Q50 could fit my golf clubs and a clicgear push cart with a little bit of room left, so depending on how big of a trunk you need it MIGHT be a good fit for you since it will feel more sporty/stiff than the Genesis. I had the Q50S without DAS, and was really fun to drive.

The backseat might be an issue though since you could really only fit two people back there comfortably, and I'm not sure how a car seat would fit since I don't have any kids.

^^^ I found the back seat noticeably less roomy than that of the Genesis, but likewise can't comment on child seats since mine is well past that stage.

Q50 is a nice car, but missing many of the creature comforts of the Genesis. For example, no ventilated seats, no heated rear seats, and many others.

Lol another Q50 comparison. Q50s are literally on every corner, can be had by just about anyone, and don't come standard with the options that do on the Genesis. There's a thread on the comparison of the two.

Me personally, I don't want to invest in a car with my hard earned money, and the same exact model pulls up right next to me. I want exclusivity. The Genesis looks like nothing on the road, it's unique.

To me, the Genesis wins hands down. I drove the Q50 red sport, wasn't impressed. The price to performance level just doesn't cut it.

Here's some pictures if you're still having a hard time deciding on which car is better:

Definitely a lot less room in the back compared to the Genesis, but he could just take the wife's SUV on those drives that require more room for the car seats, etc. If OP is looking for a bigger daily driver than the S4, it makes sense to get the Genesis over the Q50.

Also if he's driving 80 miles/day he'll definitely feel more comfy in the Genesis seats compared to the Q50's.

Agreed with all of that. I had the impression the OP was looking for more space than his S4 offered, notwithstanding the availability of his wife's SUV. Of course, if I'm wrong on that he'll surely know. :-)

So been looking at a few options last few days, Lexus GS 350 and some others but either they are too expensive or too small.

I am ok going with the Genesis if I can find the right deal. I found one I like at a decent price but the dealership would not offer me anything on my current car since it had an accident a few years back. I went to a dealership last week and they had one on the lot but it had 1k miles and honestly it looked a little beat up with a bunch of scuff marks and small scratches on it. I am thinking about calling them monday to see if they can get me another color from somewhere else.

Also no one really answered if they AWD was worth it or not in this vehicle.

AWD is really good, imho - makes for great grip and handling in all road conditions. It also gets you heated rear seats and a heated steering wheel, if those features are important to you (headlight washers too). I'm referring to USA models, btw.

Honestly the heated steering wheel and rear seats are not a big issue at all. But I am coming from an AWD car. If I can find an AWD Ultimate I will most likely go for that instead but seems to be hard to find right now in my area.

It's amazing how a vehicle with very low miles can look so used. I test drove a used Genesis at a Kia dealer full well knowing I wasn't going to buy it because it wasn't an Ultimate. I'd never drove a Genesis up to this point. The car had 7k miles with spongy brakes and a quick detail job by the porters which made all the plastic shiny. I knew right then and there I wanted a brand new car.

My dealer had 2 Ultimate's on the lot. The manager was driving one of them and it had 3k miles on the odometer. It was several thousands dollars cheaper, but my car still had the plastic on the seats. No regrets.

In Cleveland, RWD vs AWD is a no brainer with our winter weather.

If you live where snow happens, you want the AWD. Hyundai Canada didn't even bother to import the RWD version. That should tell you something.

+1
I have the AWD and it's excellent in the snow here in the Chicago area.

I knew a guy who had a G1 (RWD, as no AWD in G1), with the OEM Dunlop tires. He affectionately referred to it as the "Busan Bobsled"

I grew up in the rural Western NY snow belt (Lake Erie lake-effect snow) where 20" of snow per day was not uncommon (and 42" would stop even the Swiss-style rotary snow plow). We drove around in front-heavy RWD cars with bias ply tires and no stability or traction control, rarely getting stuck. Has something changed where AWD is now required?

I remember those days too....doing endless doughnuts in the parking lot after it snows. AWD obviously isn't required, but technology has advanced to the point where fear of fishtailing or spinning out during the winter has greatly diminished. I put snow tires on my 2013 Chrsyler 300 Hemi V8 with AWD....and I was literally unstoppable. I had a first generation 300 Hemi without AWD or snow tires, and I couldn't get up my driveway with an inch of snow.

Unfortunately, living in Ohio rules out any RWD vehicle under my consideration to buy. The first time I saw a 2015 Genesis for sale with AWD, I thought it was a misprint. Several weeks later, I own one.

There was a time when people rode around in a horse and buggy because that's all they had.

If you don't believe that AWD provides vastly superior traction over RWD in foul weather conditions, by all means, feel free to cling to that belief. Certainly nothing I say will change it.

If you get enough snow packed up under the floor boards (think snow drift) it doesn't matter *how* many wheels you are spinning, you are not going anywhere. I would know.... 😉

I live in NC so snow is not much of an issue. Seems like it would help in wet conditions alot more for me.

For sure: it can actually help in all road conditions - even dry.

I have been looking at inventory near NC and there is no AWD Ultimates showing. I think I am at the point where unless someone gives me a killer deal on a 2016 RWD Ultimate I might just wait for the G80.

Its not like the G80 is going to be in some super demand compared to the 2016.
