  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Thinking about buying a G70

I tell you what - The Q50 is (mechanically) a great car, but holy cow did Infiniti drop the ball on the technology. I also bought the first model year which was a GIANT mistake, the car was in the shop no less than 4 times just for bugs in the software alone.
I too took the bait on a first run Q50 (a 2014 model year) with Infiniti’s HORRID infotainment system. I too visited many times for issues regarding the system, and many of the promised features/updates never appeared. I believe they’re STILL using the same system across their lineup which is shocking.

All this to say, the G70 is far superior in every possible department that matters to me, with the exception of raw, straight-line speed and the horsepower on the spec sheet. Given that I’m not into drag racing, that’s not really a big deal to me. I’ll take the creature comforts, better handling, and excellent steering any day.

I cross-shopped a new Q50RS. The interior and exterior design was very nice, but it was the dated electronics that killed it for me. As for straight-line, the G70 3.3t is quicker. I actually believe it is the closest competitor for the G70. The C43 and 340i just get so damn expensive when packaging them the same.

Agreed. I did a quick search and 0-60 is a match on paper and price is ball parked close enough that with enough space to give a solid discount (Infiniti gave us $10k off on my brother's ;)) you could break even on price

I'll give you my quick two cents on the tech in the G70: I've had mine one week and I think the tech is great.

My previous car was a 2016 Mercedes GLC300. I had pretty close to the base model; I had blind spot monitoring and automatic emergency braking but nothing else (no navigation or mapping, no adaptive cruise control). I thought what tech I had in the Mercedes was maddeningly hard to use. To change car settings like mirror folding, or adjust the sound system, required going into way-too-complicated menus. Even after having the car 3 years I still got confused about what was where, and I'm pretty tech savvy. I also hated the combination mouse and touchpad Mercedes uses (and puts exactly where you want to rest your right hand while driving). It's as if Mercedes couldn't decide what controller they wanted you to have, so they gave you both, taking up key real estate in the middle of the car.

I really like the touch screen in the Genesis, and the layout of the menus is good. As well, there are hard physical buttons below the screen so you can get to key parts of the system (map, settings, music) with one button. I used the navigation just today for the first time and I'd say it's good enough that I'll probably use it instead of Apple Carplay, at least some of the time. Giving the system an address by voice command worked well. I also used Adaptive Cruise, which Genesis calls Smart Cruise Control, on the freeway for the first time today in bumper to bumper traffic and it was great; handled the accelerating and braking perfectly and all I had to do was steer. That system in particular (Adaptive Cruise) has a bit of a learning curve in my opinion (understandable perhaps, because you're putting your life in its hands; so maybe it was just me being super careful that I understood the details before I used it, but I will say the manual was a bit confusing on basic operations and I had to post in here to get a clear explanation), but once you understand how it works it's quite simple to operate.

I've never been in an Infiniti so I can't compare, but I think Genesis did a great job making the tech both simple and highly functional, so I'm guessing you'd be happy on that score.

Hi all,
New to the forum, sorry if this has been asked over and over again but bear with me. I'm currently driving an Infiniti Q50 that I've had since 2016 and it's time to get out of it. Mechanically it's been a great car but the technology is terrible and ruined what could have been a rather enjoyable experience. I'm wondering if anyone can give me their impressions on moving from a mid-range luxury cars like an Infiniti over to a Genesis and what their experience has been like. Equal quality? Better? Worse? Different? How?

The Genesis G70 is a beautiful looking car, and looks to be very well appointed, but to be honest I'm having a hard time with (my own) hangup of it being a Hyundai. I don't mean for that to sound negative or dismissive. I'm hoping to get anyone's honest feedback if they'd move from other brands over to the Genesis and how that went for them?

Thank you!
Went and test drove the G80 cause a friend of mine was on his 3rd. While I liked the interior and the panoramic sunroof, it was a bit soft on the road compared to my Caddy 3.6 CTS. It felt like I should be 20 years older, or as my neighbor put it when I was talking about it...."one foot in the grave." I test drove the G70 on a whim and fell in love with it. I went back and forth between the two, test driving them, sometimes keeping them over the weekend.

I bought the G70, 2 weeks ago and never looked back.

Take it for a test drive. You won't either.

I absolutely love my G70!

oh....my friend with the G80.....his was stolen out of the parking garage......he went and bought the 70 without even test driving it based on all of my research and comments. His quote....."frickin rediculous!"

Some other issues with the Infiniti Q50RS from when I looked at one vs the G70 last year, the Q50RS is missing: cooled front seats, heated back seats, rear usb, android auto/apple car play, HUD, wireless cell phone charging and has horrible handling compared to the G70. Plus it costs more money than the G70 3.3T Sport and doesn't include maintenance. It didn't take me long to eliminate that car from my list last year.

Regarding the lack of rear seat heaters and usb my oldest (11 at the time) said "what are we animals?" lol

The Q50 was decent 5 years ago but it is in desperate need of an update. Although I think the outside styling has aged pretty well considering it basically hasn't changed in about 7 years.

My advice is to disregard any of the social stigma of its Hyundai roots. It's a great car that has done everything I've asked of it. It gets a lot of looks and compliments. Handles exceptionally and has a solid brand behind it. Everyone has an Audi/BMW/MB so for me it was about standing out, being somewhat unique and being a brand ambassador, if you will. It outperforms the competition, is as comfortable/sporty, and isn't cookie cutter. Go drive one. Then you'll know why we all have one.

Lol at the animals quote, totally first world problems there for a kid to complain about the lack of heated seats.

^ not when you consider where we live and the long cold winters!

But it is true they are fortunate to be very spoiled. He actually asked once if sunroofs weren't invented yet when "Granny's" car was made. It was a 5 year old Corolla. I told him not all cars have sunroofs and his first car definitely will not have one lol

The power of placebo is strong in my 6 year old daughter. She told me she always turns on the heated seat when it's cold outside. That won't do much for her considering there are two towels, a seat protector, and booster seat in between her rear end and the heated seat. :grinlaugh:

Good information here. I had a G37S that I loved. 10 years old and never been in the shop with any mechanic issues. Car could have passed for a 2year old easily. Got rear ended hard enough that it got totaled 2 months ago. Walked away unharmed so it did its job to keep me in one piece. G70 sport is at the top of my list for a new car. I have test drove two at my local dealers. The Q50RS, I have not test drove one yet but had planned to. Based on feedback here from other Q50 owner’s seems like Infiniti may have gone backwards a little? The Q50 RS when optioned out is more expensive than the G70 too. Plan on waiting until 2020 G70 models come out toward the end of the year to pull the trigger to see if any new colors come out or interior colors change? The two tone interior looks nice but it’s not available in the sport trim for some reason?

It's because a true sports car is all about black on black on blaaaaaaaaack. Everyone knows this. 😉

The "murdered out" look would actually be pretty sick on a G70. Matte black, dark tints/tails, and muscular stance is just a winning combination if you can deal with the upkeep

This weekend I drove with both the smart cruise control and the lane assist (it's set on the strongest setting) on a windy highway. Felt like I was in the Tesla with the autopilot! It made every turn by itself and kept the distance from the car in front of me. Surprisingly.....when i came off the ramp which ended at a light, it stopped by itself. Cool stuff.

The one thing that I haven't seen mentioned in this string is the Lexicon audio system. That by itself is a treat to enjoy!

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
Thank you all for the input, I genuinely appreciate it! I'm going to head up to Vancouver (Washington) to the closest dealership and give one a test drive.

Nice! That is where I did my first test drive of the G70. Some of the salesmen are really cool, easy going guys. Others, not so much. Good luck and let us know how it goes!!

FYI - if you didn't already know, there is a dealership down in Bend that has a top notch staff. Very professional, and very helpful. It's a huge drive to get there for me, but just so you know they're there and they're awesome.

I just left Alfa Romeo. I had a 2017 Ti Lusso Giulia. Beautiful, fast, interesting car.

The parent company, Chrysler, sucked! The car lived at the dealership for repairs - not a huge issue. But, everytime they gave me a loaner it was a Chrysler. I drove a minivan, instead of my Italian sports car, for 2 weeks. I had to fight with, I mean yell, and call constantly to get my navi unit repaired. I even offered to pay them for the warranty work just to try what I suggetsed and they refused. What I wanted did in fact fix it but I had to talk to the regional VP!

Go to any of the Alfa forums and see how many people end up calling the the President's office to get things done. It's a shame too as the car is just great.

Fast forward, Genesis is hungry. They put out an update to the navi that broke our navi. Called them that day. They sent me free parts overnight to fix it. Already had multiple phone calls from the dealer just to make sure I am still happy. I saw the loaner cars on the lot.

I had looked at Lexus, Merc, and Audi. In fact, I was about to get a used A4 but the INSURANCE!!!!!!

The Genesis is a great car, if you want luxury vs power and handling this is a better car than the Alfa. Alfa is more interesting/beautiful inside and out but down on tech goodies and customer satisfaction.

My parents have a Lexus I350 and have had many Lexus Gs and BMWs. I'd say the Genesis G70 2T is on par with the Lexus as far as driving feel and response. I just don't like BMW as it's UX clashes with my personal schema.
