If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Greetings everyone. I was sold on buying a 2012 Hyundai Genesis but after reviews it seems its rather stiff and harsh of a ride.
I live in new england and the roads are crap. Can anyone confirm the ride quality of the Genesis?

I have a 2012 5.0 and the ride is beautiful! I've heard that the R spec has a little stiffer ride, but the main difference is the wheel size and tires. Mine has 18-in wheels and the R spec has 19's with lower profile tires.

One reason I bought my first Genesis was the nice ride. Take a short test drive and you will be convinced. Oh, I lived in New England when I bought it too.

Personally I think my 2010 with 4.6L is fairly stiff, certainly stiffer than I expected it to be. But, my other car is a 1998 BMW 740iL, with stock (soft) springs and 16" wheels, so that might have something to do with my opinion. Most of the time it doesn't bother me, but occasionally a rough railroad crossing or something similar will be kind of jarring and loud, if I hit it at speed. However, it sure handles like a sports car, which can be a ton of fun! As with a lot of other things in life, Your Mileage May Vary. Good luck!

Thanks guys. Yea a lot has to do with the low profile tires I believe. And maybe stiffer struts, which I was wondering of you could switch them out for softer ones and also go to 17" rims.

It got such good reviews for comfort and luxury. I was thinking the Equus but the whole airsuspention issue thing put me off those are such expensive systems to replace.

There is a significant difference between Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires and Michelin Crossclimate 2 (I've bought and driven both). If I moved back to central MA I would have no hesitation about putting a set of MC+ tiers on my Genny for all season use (3 snowflake rated, whatever that means these days). They're quite spectactular in FL for a smooth ride on smooth rain-soaked roads.

Any 2012+ non-Rspec Genesis will be fine. R-spec will be too harsh for someone seeking the luxo-barge ride.

Sweet thanks guys. You get these forums and review and they can vary. It is personal opinion on what one considers "firm". Mainly Im concerned about pot holes and wash boards in New England.

2012 got an updated suspension and just get the standard one. Tires are huge, some complain about tire/road noise but I suspect its just that. Michelin Quiet Comfort I think they are called are the best from what I heard. In terms of advancement it seems Hyundai was ahead of the game with this one, partly in price point but build quality to match.

The roads just suck here.

I love my 2012 sedan..it has an amazing suspension and shocks I guess because it's so smooth and comfortable on back roads etc. Smooth on turns there is nothing stiff about this car at all.

2011 Sedan 3.8 17inch wheels. 25,000 miles.
Smooth as glass on most roads. Pot holes, even
minor one. Really harsh. Wind noise, road noise
is above average. Actually, no noticeable road noise,
little wind noise. Easy step in height. Compared to
Avalon.

Yes, the ride is significantly improved in the 2012.

I was thinking of getting an older lexus ls430 but I think hyundai took a lot from car manufactures like them and made a sophisticated suspension system, It seems to have active dampening if Im not mistaken. Also there are reports its too soft and not connected to the road that well.
I just hope theres no vibration in the seats or steering wheel like my old lexus.

Some Genesis BH cars sold in some countries came equipped with air-ride suspension. The Genesis system is air-ride. It is not an active (variable magnetic fluid) damping system found in some premium GM, Ford, etc. cars. North American cars do not have air-ride suspension.

The only thing "active" is the headlight-leveling sensors built into the rear suspension. But it levels the headlights, not the car.

Ah ha thanks. So Im left with the questionable Equus and its air suspension
