  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Thinking of swapping my 2019 G70 for a GV70. Any advice?

Have had my 2019 G70 2.0 since spring of 2019. About to move from a small apartment to a medium size house and I see a ton of errands over the next few years. Thinking of trading in for the purpose of having a bit more cargo space. Any advice on how to buy?

Because of the pandemic and my tendency ride a bike whenever possible instead of driving, my G70 has only 16k miles on it. It has a few scratches from being parked on the street, but basically is in good condition.

When I bought it 4 years ago I was helped by many in this forum (so, thanks!), including someone who gave me a certificate for an employee-family-and-friend discount ("Circle pricing" I guess it was called... big thanks there!). I assume now that Genesis is pretty well established, those days are gone...

If your "errands" involve picking up lumber, washing machines, new mattress, soil/tractor/lawn repairs, etc. Then get a pickup.

Otherwise keep your G70, enjoy the ride, and you'll be fine for the errands. You can always pay for shipping for the oversized items and that is a hell of a lot cheaper than buying a new vehicle.

Now if you want a GV70 or newer vehicle for other reasons, then this argument is less valid.

This is coming from a guy who bought a mid-size house on a few acres, and SOLD his 1/2 ton truck for a G70. Yeah I miss when I need it, all of two times a year, but the G70 makes so much more sense and more enjoyable for my use as a daily driver and only vehicle.

+1 on what Truck Norris said. Don’t underestimate how much you can do with a sedan. I use it to pick up bags of mulch, limited qualities of pipe, lumber, trim, lawn mower, weed wacker. Not the easiest all the time but not hard either. Renting a uhaul for a day is pretty cheap compared to a new payment or not really liking the vehicle you own.

Exactly. I've stacked lumber inside my G70 and put about 300lbs of soil in the car among other uses.

I sometimes wonder if I could make due with a coupe...but the wife and a large dog are limiting factors (oh yeah, my 80lb Pyrenese X owns the backseat in the G70). Can't fit them both in a coupe sadly.

(sorry, accidental post)

I agree with others....be realistic with yourself about what you'll be looking to haul and evaluate whether the GV70 will make that much difference. It certainly has more capacity but that doesn't mean you'll really need it. Based on what I've recently I'd expect to have to come up with a lot of money to switch to a new GV70....enough to pay for many hassle free deliveries or uhauls.

You'll find plenty of things in the house to spend money on instead of a new vehicle.

Big stuff is better delivered by the pro with the right euipment. Three houses over the lat 57 years and never owned anything larger than a sedan.

+2 on Truck Norris and everyone saying to keep the G70.

I went through a similar situation a few years ago, and bought a 2019 Ford Explorer XLT (with the sweet looking appearance package) after owning a 2013 KIA Optima SXL. It may have saved my wife and I (no kids and no plans) a couple hundred bucks during our move into a larger house with some of the transportation (we still had to rent a U-Haul), but I was then left with a vehicle that wasn't fun and drove like a boat. The GV70 is definitely supreme to that Explorer though, but is still an SUV.

There has been a crossover/SUV craze going on for a few years... try not to get caught up in justifying you need one unless you're constantly using more cargo room for family hauling or daily Costco shopping. I do just fine with going to the wholesale clubs with the G70 - surely I use the backseat for taller objects though.

The GV70 will obviously be taller, giving better viewing clearance and easier entering/exiting, but is it really worth it in the end to give up how awesome the G70 is, and to enter a huge car payment/eat a bunch of depreciation again. The GV70 is definitely much more fresh and appealing right now, but you may want to hold out until the new G70 comes out if you're wanting something new.

The only reason I'd buy an SUV is if you need to tow something, since you just cannot do it with a car. But other than that, I'd keep the car. I have a '22 SF Calligraphy (to tow my motorcycle... which I have yet to do. Ha ha), and the G70, where the car is too low to enter/exit, but the SF too tall, so that doesn't solve that issue. And fuel mileage suffers too. The car that would mix the 2 vehicles the best IMO, is a Subaru Outback Touring XT (also with 3,500-lb tow rating)... but it's ugly as heck. If I had known my SF was going to have the stupid DCT issue, I'd have bought the Outback. Oh well.

Volvo S90. Tows 4500lbs if I recall.

I don't think you can put a 2" hitch on a regular car; it'd drag everywhere. In addition, the only Volvo powertrain is a 2.0T 4-banger, so doubt it can tow that much, but it's possible. But the S90 costs like 50% more than a G70 and an Outbtack Touring XT, so a different market.
