  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

This is probably the biggest reason sales haven't been better this year...

Aside from the GV80 (which is selling its allocation each month); the tight rear compartment in the G70 also doesn't help.

3.8% is well below that of BMW and Audi at 8.4 and 8.6%.

Lexus at 11.3%, Acura at 12.1% (was 15% for the 1Q of last year) and Infiniti at a whopping 16.5%.

Don't think Genesis is interested in selling volume just yet (Korean sales keep the brand in the black); think there is something to wanting to drive out the less desirable dealerships.

This is dealer incentive or customer rebate/discount?

On a similar thought, I know that asymmetric information is something that favors the dealer in negotiation with the customer. The dealer knows what the bottom line for him MUST be, what allocation is available, sales history by color/model, etc, market conditions generally and more locally, inventory, potential repair and parts additive to any sale, and more.

My question is how much does each dealer know about another dealer and his inventory, selling costs, incentives, allocation, all the things that would be important it seems, to keep within the dealer if possible? Or is this available through normal or, ahem, abnormal methods?

I have my own theory about this topic and I think a bunch has to do with Dealership lousy presentations. In my quest for a GV80 I've vistied many (10+) area Dealer facilities and spoke with even more on the phone over the last few months.

1. The Genesis models on the lots are spread all over the place, jammed between the Hyundai models. Almost none had a model inside.
2. The limited availablilty (at least the GV80) gave the Salespeople the 'do you want it or not' attitude.
3. Few of the Salespeople took the time to even appear friendly or willing to just talk.
4. Few of the Salespeople know much about the Product they're supposed to be selling.

I've just bought my second Genesis but it was because I did the reseach about the product. But then again maybe the time I spent checking the Genesis product made the Dealers seem incompetent!

There has never been a Genesis parked inside at the few dealerships near me. It's hard to take the Brand seriously with the few models in stock parked between Kia's and Hyundai's and no dedicated salespeople for the brand. I had a G80 and now have a Design Edition 3.3T G70. Love the cars, but not exactly the Lexus treatment for experience.

No vehicles in the salesroom yet by my dealership does have dedicated Genesis salespersons. They tell me that they will be breaking ground this summer on a stand-alone Genesis dealership here in Winnipeg. We'll see...

Heard the same line about groundbreaking when I bought my G80 in February 2019 (NJ). Dealer was still using that same line when I bought my GV80 last month!

You know if they cannot get sales right that service is likely to be a disaster.
At the small Hyundai dealership where I live I feel I am treated as second class behind the Hyundai buyers. They are the dealerships bread and butter. Genesis buyers are just a small market for them. Some ask for Lexus quality service - I wish I could at least get Hyundai quality!

That's crazy. I've worked with three dealers and each had two designated and trained Genesis sales people. My local dealer has a G70, 80, 90 in the showroom. Last visit the G80 was replaced by a GV80.

At my dealer, my salesman is also a Genesis specialist. They usually have a Genesis in the showroom also.

When I would get my G80 serviced at the previous dealer, I was in line behind Kia/Hyundai/Toyota customers. No real waiting area either. they had a couple of chairs, a table in the corner with 2 year-old magazines. No water, snacks, anything. In a showroom they never bothered finishing the remodeling on.
A far, far, far cry from my previous BMW, Acura, etc. experience.
Not to mention my previous Lexus concierge with the private consulting booths, New York Times, etc. in the newspaper racks, the espresso bar with barista and biscotti in the waiting area with overstuffed leather seating in front of a fireplace with an OLED TV panel above it. And the service prices were very reasonable. But then again, after the BMW, ANYTHING seems reasonable.
The new Dealer is where we bought our Subaru Ascent, and I though the salesman was super awesome (and recommended him to several close friends as well) - so I switched dealers for my G70.
Although they do not have a dedicated showroom, the amenities are nice and clean and the service is outstanding.

Line? Never waited in line. I'm met when I pull up and taken inside to the Genesis service manager. Then I wait in a comfortable seat in the waiting area with comfortable seats, some tables and chairs. Complimentary Coffee, tea, water are available to have with your donut holes or cookes. Other snacks in the vending machines.

Rest rooms are large, well appointed and nicer tile and fixtures than many nice homes.
TV, wi-fi of course.

My former Mercedes dealer can get some pointers from them.

i must have just gotten lucky with my genesis purchase experience. the 3 dealerships i went to, one in colorado, one in FL and one in OK, all had dedicated genesis people that immediately helped me out and knew enough about them and the differences in the models to speak intelligently. The only real complaint i had was no one had the one i wanted in the color i wanted. the higher level trim packages at all the dealerships i went to and called were selling almost immediately. its the lower trims or colors that werent highly desirable that were sitting on their lots.

as for service, cant speak to it yet, but it'd be hard to be as bad as the BMW dealerships ive dealt with over the years. Hell, the last couple times i went in for a service at BMW, i had to get my own uber because they were too busy to drive me the mile back to my house.

also, i am interpreting this chart as Genesis doesnt need to offer a bunch of incentives to sell cars. which means they are definitely hitting their target sales numbers and not too worried about it.

Genesis dealerships in their current state are a hit or miss (don't think new digs will necessarily help the service experience at the crappily run dealerships), but doesn't seem to be impacting GV80 sales, and likely to be even more so for the GV70.

Many Telluride owners/buyers have to deal with a crappy Kia dealership and yet they have been willing to pony up as much as $70k (out the door price) nonetheless.

This is sort of like buying the cheapest house in a great neighborhood vs buying the most expensive house in a bad neighborhood. It doesn't what kind of house you have, your experience will generally be the same as the other people in that neighborhood.

My problem with the G80 is nobody has the 3.5T Prestige I want. (Ruby Red or Blue or even White but no Black. Also want Beige interior. There are Black on Black available, and 2.5T available but no high end 3.5T Prestige.
YOU CANT SELL THEM IF YOU AINT GOT THEM!

BTW. Some dealers have the car I want listed in their website but they “just sold it yesterday”. Still on their website two weeks later. They just want you to come in so they can sell you a lesser model.
