  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I just found this thread and this is my first post. I am in the market for a G70 (probably a 3.3T Sport) within the next few months. I live in the ATL area and have seen quite a few used G70 'Superbowl Special' cars, most with low mileage. Does anyone have any thoughts/concerns about purchasing one of these cars? Possible good deal or stay away from?

Thanks in advance for your thoughts/input!

In the next few months they may be gone. Most manufacturers have such "program cars". They sponsor big events like Superbowl, golf tournaments and the like and lend the cars for use by the golfers and executives and so forth. After the event, local dealers can sell them at very attractive prices.

My local Buick dealer had a LeSabre I liked. I came close to buying it but the front seat had a cigarette burn that was very visible. Otherwise would have been a great buy with hundreds, not thousands of miles on it. I'd consider one if I found it.

Thanks EdP! So would you surmise that ones with less than 100 miles on them would likely not have been abused? My main concern was how they were treated before availability with the 500 mile break-in period recommended by Genesis, or would you say that was not really a concern as long as everything else checked out?

I'd may be worry if they were from a NASCAR event but most probably went from hotel to stadium to dinner.

I would think that with that low of mileage you should be fine. I believe the break-in is 600 miles.

chances are they aren't too beat up if it's a golf tourney type car, but i'm a pessimist when it comes to 'demo' cars. i always assume the worst - that they've been bagged on. how else is a tester supposed to assess performance capabilities? on a camry, nobody cares. but on a performance oriented vehicle, enthusiasts want to know what it'll do.

if you don't plan to keep the car out of warranty it doesn't matter, and i'd go for the deal if it makes sense. i would be careful to check for cosmetic damage, etc.

i attended a G70 demo day at a local track last year. those cars would all be sold afterwards, new tires and brake pads swapped in. i would not want to own those cars long term. lots of abuse, drifting, high speed on hot days with 4 guys riding...those cars had a long day or three. so even at 1500km those are hard kms. not sure what the long term effect would be.

Thanks! I appreciate all the input...hopefully an owner soon!

The one I am looking at only has 31 miles on it so hopefully not a track car...I would guess the higher mileage ones would have been used for that.

31 miles? damn my brand new car had like 24 on it and those were the miles they had to put on as part of the pre purchase inspection. i wouldnt balk at finding a 31 mile one for a good discount!

I not sure there would be much if any discount for a car with 31 miles on it if you are titled as the original owner. Why would they?

31 miles? yeah, if they are giving a good discount that seems like a no-brainer. hard to do much damage in that short amount of miles.

Not sure...plan to look into it

That is what I thought, so posted here to make sure I was not missing anything

I've owned many Demo cars from various manufacturers, some with low (under 200 miles) even one with 9,000 miles.

one (of several) of the things to verify when buying is the warranty.

for example with GM cars, if the vehicle was never titled with the DMV, and carried dealer, manufacturer, or state issued dealer DEMO plates (special event plates for golf, super bowl, etc.) then the original warranty goes into full effect with the first owner that titles the car, with my 2010 Avalanche for example, that truck had 9,000+ miles on it, but only wore dealer plates, so my warranty started at 9,000 miles so it was a 3/36 that actually expired 3 years the from the day I titled it or 36,000 miles from that day (so 45,000 on the odometer). BTW I got over $20K of MSRP on that truck. Paid $43K OTD then traded it back in on a 2012 Camaro, drove it 2.5 years, and got $38K on the trade.

same with my Lexus RCF, I bought the car with 1,200 miles on it, but the warranty started the day I purchased it so the 4/50K actually would have ended at 51,200 miles (sold the car at 38K).

however, some manufacturers and I have read here that Hyundai/Genesis is one of them, start the warranty the day the vehicle goes into service regardless if that is as a demo or titled vehicle and if you purchase it, you are technically the second owner, and while the original 5/60K warranty will still be in effect, the 10/100 powertrain does not transfer to the second owner.

If you haven’t seen it in person to verify the mileage it is probably higher. Last fall many dealers were selling demos and the majority of them had them listed with miles under 100 but actually had thousands. Those promo cars probably don’t have that many though.

Thanks! Good information and I will definitely ask about that...

You are probably right and I will definitely verify the mileage...

This one has 43 miles on it so we will see how negotiations go...

One thing might be worth noting, if any of these vehicles have been titled or not?
ie will you be the first registered owner?
If yes, you should be in good shape If not, as far as I know, it will not come with the 10 year/100k warranty with it, unless you spend extra $$$$ for the extended warranty.
There is still appears to be no CPO program for the Genesis brand. IMHO, there is about only one, maybe two dealers around ATL that will bring this subject up.
Good luck with your search for the perfect deal...

Thanks! They say I will be the first registered owner and that all the warranties apply. I asked directly if it was a CPO and they said 'no'. That was definitely one of my considerations...
