  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Thoughts On My First G70 Drive

Wow, I guess they do weigh less. Compared to the 18s from my 2019 G70 and my winters, they feel like they weigh a ton..
If those weighs are correct, that's actually pretty impressive for OEM 19"s.

I know the TFRs are much easier to carry around, compared to the OEM 10-spoke wheels we had.

As long as the wheels are load-rated properly, there is really no downside to lighter weight. They help your suspension better able to control unsprung mass movement, which in turn helps to keep the tire stick to the road surface for more consistent traction. Less rotational inertia means quicker accel/decel, which boosts performance and enhances safety... and improves mpg to boot. Car will ride smoother as well.

Like Jason with EE, I too wish car mfrs would quit putting big ass wheels on their car for vanity sake. They should be no larger than would fit over the biggest brakes of the line. Unless Genesis sees fit to upgrade G70 to 15" front rotors and Brembos 6pot Monoblocs (which I think they should), the current brakes need no larger than 18"s.
The car I just traded in on the G70 was a 2016 Cadillac CTS 3.6 AWD with the regular suspension and standard 17x8.5" wheels (245/45R17 tires). A buddy of mine who gets to test most new cars on a racetrack encouraged me to look at the CTS (and the base wheel/suspension setup) when I was shopping in 2016, primarily considering the BMW 535, Mercedes E400, and Audi A6 - he raved about the lightweight handling feel of the car. I think GM achieved that through a laser focus on weight reduction, including smaller wheels.

My 2005 BMW 330Ci ZHP package had 18" wheels, but I bought a set of 17" wheels from an older ZHP... with the same tires on both sets, the car felt far more "alive" on the 17s.... although the 18s definitely looked more aggressive!
