  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I just noticed in the Edmonton Boutique thread how the sunroof hangs out over the rear window when fully open. Although I understand that this would save some headroom in the car, relative to having the sunroof stow internally, I'm really not wild about the look. Do other cars have their sunroofs configured this way? Can't say that I've ever noticed if they do.

Just curious what others thought.

For me, the only time it is open I am on the inside so I really don't care how it looks but am more interested in the function. If it helped rear seat headroom or keep the overall height of the car down, then I am okay with it. That said though, I have been wanting to get my wife to drive the car with me following so that I can see if/how much the sunroof moves while in the open position. To me it seems like it is a lot of weight with not much support so I am a bit worried about it structurally in the long term (ie squeaks and rattles when the car gets older).

^ i see what you mean. in college i had a Mazda MX6 coupe and its sunroof did this. never bothered me, so as long as it operated as it should i was ok with it.

i don't mind the look on the G70, but i'm often a function over form guy so the fact that it is a big sunroof while conserving headroom, that's a win in my books.

The Cadillac’s SRX crossover sport sunroofs that come close to the size of a Japanese starter home,
And an open sunroof interrupts airflow over a vehicle, increasing drag and reducing fuel economy.

My second gen mazda RX7 did this as well. It allows for more headroom and in this case possibly a larger sunroof.

Most cars nowadays have sunroofs like that as many sunroofs are of the wide/panoramic type -- it offers more headroom at the expense of exterior aesthetic when open and road noise. The G90 has a traditional sunroof that goes under the roof of the car for a cleaner exterior look and less road noise.

If you google you can see there has been a lot of sunroofs cracking / exploding that would be my concern with having that kind of overhang.

This is fairly common in smaller cars. My Audi S5 has the same type of sunroof.
