If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hello, Kind of new to this forum and I can sure use your help. I took my 2015 to Hyundai for the 60K service. One week after the services, the engine oil light warning came on. Took back to the dealership where they told me the the "oil sending unit" needed to be replaced. They also recommended replacing the "fuel injectors" at the same time. I had purchased an extended warranty when I bought the car. The warranty covered the "Oil sending unit" but nor the "fuel injectors". I elected to have both replaced. Picked up the car following repairs on Friday 02/03/23. On the following Thursday, 02/09/23, I as driving down a residential street and my engine light comes on and the car barely had enough power to get it off the road. Got car towed back to Hyundai who is now advising me that I need a new "Throttle Assembly" which is not covered on the extended warranty because they consider that maintenance. I am an older gal and really don't have the mechanical brain to figure this out but was able to do some research online that said the throttle body needed to be removed to replace the fuel injectors. This seems suspicious to me that the throttle body now needs to be replaced 6 days after the fuel injectors were replaced. Is it possible the mechanic failed to correctly connect the throttle body to the MASS Airflow Sensor? Or is this a legitimate repair? I'm already out $2,100 for the fuel injectors and now they want $800 to replace the throttle assembly.
Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks - Dee

First thought... Stay away from that dealer. There's been a few members here who've had oil pressure sending units fail right after an oil change. What are the chances? That seems awful fishy.

And shame on them for conning you into new injectors. (What kind of extended warranty covers the sending unit and wouldn't cover injectors?) Unless the car was running poorly, low on performance, bad mileage or the car smelling of gasoline, you didn't need injectors.

As to the throttle body... good chance something wasn't replaced or secured properly. What a coincidence that the throttle body died one week later by itself. If the part IS actually damaged... they probably did it. Sorry, but don't be a sucker to these crooks twice. Without service bays, the dealer wouldn't survive.

Do your research and find another dealer or (preferably) reputable shop to run a scan on the car to find out what's actually happening.

My hunch is there is some kind of air leak downstream from the throttle body causing a lean condition. This would show up in scan data by the oxygen sensors and fuel trim compensation. I took a quick peek at some schematics and don't see a MAF sensor (odd). Fuel control looks like it's monitored by intake manifold and barometric pressure, along with the throttle position sensor.

Good luck on this. Keep us posted.

Hi Arc Man, First off, thank you so much for replying! I really appreciate it.

I have been going to Dublin CA Hyundai for years and probably paying too much for service but this is the first time I have really questioned their work. Moving forward on the assumption that they did not re-install the original Throttle Body correctly – I wonder what else can go wrong.

They are saying 10-12 days for parts. I found the replacement Throttle Body & Gasket online that I can get OEM parts with expedited shipping in a couple days. But they did give me a loaner car and I am grateful for that.

I was surprised that they told me the car was drivable. I had the car towed to their shop because it lost power & died on me. This week I am going to try to find a mechanic to run a new scan as you suggested. If they come back with the same diagnosis then I am SOL. Hyundai stated what the scan read and are sticking by their story and are not admitting any error on their part.

I keep you posted. And again, thanks!

Im not sure if its the same with our cars but some throttle bodies need to be relearned. I would go to another dealer it sounds like they messed up.

The ones on my old G35 had to be programmed at the dealer...
